Here are a couple of things I do daily.
If you have any, add them.
1. Use the correct oil recommended by your auto manufacturer.
2. 60 mph will generally get you much better mileage than 75 mph.
3. Use cruise control on open roads.
4. Remove excess weight from your car. (Garbage in the trunk etc.
5. Smooth starts, no sudden accelerations from a stop.
6. Excess idling, like waiting for the kids in the morning.
7. Important, keep tires properly inflated. This can save lots of money over a year period. And check them every month or more often.
8. Tune up engine. Another important gas and engine saver.
9. Don't tailgate. You spend half your time hitting the brakes, and then back to the gas pedal.
10. Don't use oversized tires unless you really need them. Try and stay with stock size tires or close to it.
I tried the same thing with my Concorde, I didn't notice much of a difference....
My Concorde gets pretty good mileage anyway....
Good start--a few more:
optimum fuel efficiency for most domestic vehicles is quite slow--well below normal highway speeds
aerodynamic drag is a huge factor--and quadruples with a doubling of the speed-- so minimize aftermarket drag producing gadgets
if you can accelerate more smoothly and slowly than your cruise control--don't use it
time those stop lights (within reason) so as not to have to come to a full stop
keep tires properly inflated, vehicle tuned at proper intervals. with a replacement air cleaner
These are general comments intended for the non-gearhead.
When driving with a tail wind I realease the mylar sails and slap it into neutral. And the advertising space pays for most of my gas...silent running...cool:>)
Don't warm up your car.
When you get in your car, get everyone situated before you turn on the engine. These minutes are pretty much wasted gas when your car engine is idling and you are not going anywhere.
I thought I read somewhere that those don't help and might actually decrease your gas mileage compared to just leaving the tailgate up. I'll have to try and find what I read.
Of course, I may just be imagining it and never really read anything like that. YMMV.
They had cars down there in Texas long before A/C was invented.
A/C is a gas mileage killer. A big ol load on the motor too, causing excess heat.
I've even seen some in JC Whiney that had a solid frame but the center wat that net thing.
I gotta get me one of those.
Must be a typo. 25 gal/mi ?
And I thought Texans were supposed to be tough.
Mine's metallic red...;>)
I find I get a lot better mileage at 75 mph than I do at 60 mph. Go figure.
Yes Thanks
Its a decaf non day at our house.
I seem to get 4mpg more on my monthly 154 round trip to Tucson that way.
Quit your job and send people out out to buy you beer and liquor.
