Close Ken, according to the MesoAmerican Ballgame website, Some of the balls had human skulls at the core. Rubber strips were wound around skulls to form a large hollow ball. Because its hollow, the ball would be lighter and bounce higher than a ball that was solid rubber. The size of the balls varied from location to location. Some balls were about the size of a softball and others were larger than a beach ball. The balls could weigh as much as 8 pounds.
