I'm probably just zionked that the sport of racing has gotten lost in the job of advertising racing. I agree. I knew the sport was in it's demise when I saw a big guy walking around Daytona wearing a Tide jacket. I mean, c'mon, a guy wearing a laundry soap jacket? We've definitely been soap operaized. However, that was in the days when CBS would have Chris Economaki on the 4-hour delay, with only 2 camera coverage. I don't like that NASCAR has become Wall Street/Madison Aenue sanitary, but at least we get to see a whole lot more racing with a lot better coverage, at least with FOX. NBC sucks, but that's another gripe for another time. I sure would like to see Smoke beat the crap out of Busch. that would make for some good post race TV.
Article : Lucky to be alive
In Nadeau's last California appearance, he was driving the MB2-owned U.S. Army-sponsored Chevrolet in the NASCAR Auto Club 500. He finished 14th in the Winston Cup event, the last time he would drive competitively.
Five days later, Nadeau crashed hard at Richmond International Raceway during practice, suffering a head injury that has sidelined him since.
"It was a 128G (force of gravity) hit," Nadeau said Tuesday inside the Hendrick Motorsports hauler. "It should have killed me. I'm just trying to look at my life now, figure out what's next."
The biggest question is trying to determine whether racing will ever play a role in his life. He has the desire - "I wish we had a second car here so that I could race against Adrian." - but questions remain whether he is physically fit to compete.
Nadeau readily admits he lives with a constant tingling feeling on the left side of his body, the direct result of the hit to the right side of the brain.
"It's like when your arm or leg falls asleep," Nadeau said in trying to explain the sensation. "It's there all the time. If I really focus on something, I can barely feel it. When I work out, I feel it even more as the brain works to try and connect those nerves.
"I'm getting better. I'm not a 100 percent. I would say about 70."
Fontana holds a special place in Nadeau's career. In 1997, he started the inaugural NASCAR race at the old Kaiser Steel mill site for Richard Jackson, in just his second Cup start. The 2003 race was the last of his 177 starts that produced one win, the 2000 season finale in Atlanta for owner Rick Hendrick.
Nadeau is working for Hendrick once again, coaching the Busch Series drivers. In addition to Fernandez, Nadeau has worked with Hendrick drivers Boston Reid and Blake Feese.

They need to dock him about a 100 points now. That would put Jeff into the Chase and bring Jr within striking distance. I'm surprised it wasn't a 283-point one.

I doubt Tony would have done that in a Cup race because they just might dock him points to make things interesting. I predict these next 4 races will have 'drama'.
Jr was practicing at Bristol yesterday in the 81 and crashed. Brought out the backup and continued practice. Reporters mobbing him unmercifully regarding his chances for the Chase.

- The next incident (either on-track or off-track) involving Smoke will result in a 1-weekend parking, even if he's the victim (there's a reason why Jimmy Spencer, a previous victim of this philosophy, is in the #66 this weekend after all).
- There will be at least one seizing of the #20 car after tech inspection; it will be blamed by the conspiratorialists as further help for Toyota.

Wallace brothers update -
- Frim Jayski - Mike is not necessarily out of the #4. The John Andretti experiment at Michigan is to see what's wrong with the team, and both Larry McClure (head honcho at Morgan-McClure) and Mike say he'll be back in the car at Bristol.
- Frim Kenny's site - the "temporary" split with Michael Waltrip Racing is because of the fact that AutoZone and NAPA are competitors. Also, the effort for this weekend has been "outsourced" to Bill Davis Racing (sounds like payback for the abortive Pepsi 400 effort, where MWR gave Kenny Wallace to the BDR #23).

And how will John, can't get a ride, Andretti determine this??? You got me. Maybe that's why I don't have a Cup team :-)
BAM Racing tried just this with Steve Grissom back when they were trying to force Shawna Robinson on us. Yep, that's the same Steve Grissom who couldn't stick around at Petty Enterprises and now has to rely on his 1993 Busch Series championship to get into a good chunk of the Busch races.
Seiresly, there isn't all that many experienced drivers that are available to do this kind of experiment. You obviously can't use a young gun because they're not used to Cup equipment. The good experienced drivers all have rides. The old ones are, well, too old. Since Morgan-McClure is a Chevy team, that rules out most of your Ford/Dodge drivers from the lower series. Throw in the fact that some of the few eligible drivers are M-M castoffs (Mike Skinner and Bobby Hamilton Sr come to mind).
I'm surprised they're going this route rather than just dumping The Other Wallace. I think they just want to hope against hope that it's just the driver.

Top Ten Ways Dale Junior and Jeff Gordon Can Make The Chase 10. Gordon : Isn't there some sort of "past champions" rule?
9. A proposal from Junior to NASCAR : How about we put restrictor plates on for the next few weeks?
8. Gordon : If the old system had been in place last year...I would have been the champion...haven't I suffered enough?
7. Junior : It's Michael's fault I am not in the Chase...let him figure out how to get me in.
6. Gordon : After all, this is my drive for FIVE...why not make the cutoff FIVE hundred points?
5. Junior : Can't the fans just vote me in?
4. Gordon : Since Mike Bliss seems so content on keeping me out of the Chase, maybe he can come up with a way to get me into it.
3. Junior : I think I'm OK. I mean the chances of Jarrett, Edwards, McMurray, Sadler, Harvick, Gordon, and Kenseth all having trouble are pretty good, right?
2. Gordon : The Rainbow Warriors worked once before... maybe they'll be up for a reunion tour.
1. Junior : Isn't there some rule that ensures that the Most Popular Driver gets in? I thought it came with the trophy.
