Manteo Booksellers' Annual Herbert Hoover Celebration

Each year, on August 10th, we celebrate the birthday of the man who loved poetry, dogs and fishing (not necessarily in that order). We have a fun-filled author event, live musical entertainment, Happy Birthday Herbie cakes, our world-famous "Herbert Sherbert" punch, Herbie trivia contest (all the answers are available in the Herbert Hoover fun facts posted throughout the bookshop on his birthday) and our own Herbie shrine loaded with Herbert Hoover memorabilia and our private collection of Hoover books for guests to peruse

Kudos to Manteo Booksellers for celebrating the Great Humanitarian's birthday (1874).

Get ready for big Hooverball action.

Make sure you've got reservations though, so you don't end up staying in the "Hooverville" shantytown that's springing up just over the city limits.

When is Taft Day?

Taft day? Appropriately two days before Constitution Day: August 15.

His 150th is coming up in two years. I'm trying to arrange some celebration thereof at Cincinnati. You will be invited.

Btw, I'd hope they're doing all sorts of celebrations for Hoover's b-day out at Stanford.

Just got back from a week at the beautiful NC outer banks. We never miss the Christmas Shop in Manteo, we've been going for the past 17 years or so. Anyone know why the Christmas Shop is closing? Its sort of a tradition to visit there when the beaches get to be too much (or it rains!).
