Does anyone know of a Internet filter that resides on your own computer that can block specific web sites? know that my MS IE has a "web content manager" that will allow a general block (password protected) but if the site is un-rated it won't allow you to access that site unless you enter a password. What I'm looking for a a piece of software that runs in the background that will allow you to block particular web sites.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you. I knew about Goggle but I thought someone might actually have tried and liked a piece of software that they would recommend.
I'm reading about host file now.
Thanks again

If you insist on using MSIE, then you should be able to do what you want under Tools>internet options>security tab and add sites you want to block to the Restricted Zone. Set the properties of the Restricted Zone to a high level security.

I use and recommend
HostsMan to block specific web sites.
