I just remember those commercials he taped to be played after his death about how smoking was the reason he died. Or am I remembering this wrong (not unheard of, LOL!)?

I recall commercials like that being run after Yul Brynner's death, but not John Wayne.

From the JW Cancer Institute web page:

Didn't Yul Brenner also do some PSA's about not smoking? That was long ago and I don't remember so well either:)
