Barbarella 'sexiest sci-fi character'

Barbarella has been named the sexiest sci-fi character of all time.

The inter-galactic babe, played by Jane Fonda in the 1968 film, topped the poll by influential movie magazine 'Film Review' because of her sexy opening scenes.

The magazine said: "Getting dressed in zero gravity has never looked as good as in the opening sequence of this classic sci-fi film."

Fitness guru Jane Fonda, who played the role when she was 31, beat off competition from more recent characters, including 'Alien' star Sigourney Weaver and 'Matrix' beauty Carrie Anne Moss, to win the accolade.

The magazine described the chart-topping character as: "A sixties icon who was sweetness itself, and yet also the sexiest screen heroine ever to sport a transparent plastic vest."

Other stars nominated in the poll included 'Fifth Element' babe Milla Jovovich, who came second, and 'Terminator 3' star Kristanna Loken, who was voted in third place.

'Star Wars' beauty Carrie Fisher, who played screen siren Princess Leia in the cult hit nearly thirty years ago, also made it into the top 10.

Top Ten Sci-Fi babes:

1. Barabarella, Jane Fonda

2. Leeloo, Milla Jovovich, 'The Fifth Element'

3. T-X, Kritanna Loken, 'Terminator 3'

4. Princess Leia, Carrie Fisher, 'Star Wars'

5. Trinity, Carrie Anne Moss, 'The Matrix'

6. Maria, Bridget Helm, 'Metropolis'

7. Zhora, Joanna Cassidy, 'Blade Runner'

8. Sil, Natasha Henstridge, 'Species'

9. Vaako, Thandie Newton, 'The Chronicles of Riddick'

10. Ripley, Sigourney Weaver, 'Alien'

STAR WARS is a "cult hit"?

I think we can consider any movie that Princess Leia Organa appeared in to be a hit by any measure.

Very nice. But, PA, we're all forgetting: Raquel Welch in Fantastic Voyage. (OK, she wasn't that darn sexy in that particular movie, but she was damn sexy, and she was in a science fiction movie!)

Any number of extras from the first TV Star Trek would be better than Barbs.

For example, how about the Orion slave women?
