Saw a bumper sticker once that said "Rugby - A ruffian sport played by gentlemen
Soccer - A gentlemen sport played by ruffians"
Not sure what to make of that.
Rugby - nasty game played by big nasty guys, who for the most part play by the rules. Most ruggers know the game is too violent already so hooligan like behavior is unacceptable, thus raising the risk
Soccer- intense game which relies on finesse as opposed to brute power like rugby. Soccer rivalries are intense leading to brawls on the field and amongst the fans.Soccer players and fans participate in extracurricular violent behavior as opposed to rugby.
