I'm pretty sure that riding a bike on the sidewalk is illegal. Bikes are supposed to be on the road with traffic.

That site was quoting California law, but I see kids do it all the time in Florida outside my neighborhood. It's safer than riding on the shoulder next to 45-mph traffic.
I believe you ought to be able to use the sidewalks with a non-motorized bike. I just think the idea of mixing full-speed traffic with 15-mph traffic is stupid. (Those bike lanes ought to be for small displacement motorbikes that can't reach highway speeds, and the sidewalks should be for foot and bike traffic.)
