Media Relations: the NCAA WANTS the delays, they get more money that way.
Intellectual Consistency: (playoff) Why would they shoot this cash cow?
Showboating: this has been extended to the whole game in a manner of speaking. You can't take your helmet off, you can't signal 'first down' when you make one etc...just like the NFL, the No Fun League.
Number calling: what's wrong with holding someone accountable? I guess we can't have a player "feeling bad." And the NCAA only started doing this a couple of years ago. It hasn't made anyone cry yet AFAIK.
Academics: players have always been permitted and even encouraged to get degrees in anything any other student could get. Even medical degrees.
I think the NCAAs biggest problem is meting out penalties for colleges who engage in cheating. Tennessee for one should have gotten the death penalty. So should have Ohio State and Kentucky but for some reason they've been allowed to cheat with little consequence.

NFL games are televised within a three hour window. The league makes sure that the games go off in a timely manner (unless there's an overtime). NCAA games can barely fit into a four hour window without overtime.
