OK, all you Freeper baseball fans..exciting week on and off the field. As usual, let's recap the races, then we'll talk about off the field shenanigans...
Don't give up on the division, Petronski. We're sweeping your division leaders this weekend.
The Tribe melted down tonight (5 errors, 3 inning-ending double plays), but no, I haven't given up on the division. I don't think we'll win it, but it is not decided yet. As for the wild card, who knows?
Tribe radio said 5 errors, but the website says four. Crappy either way, but who knows for certain?
I just hope they've gotten it out of their system...
Ortiz was awesome last night....Looper sucks..big time...my Metsies are done....thnoguh Wright may never get out of the 3 slot in the order again..one small saving grace..now I can concentrate on rooting against the Yankees, for the Sox..both of them..and for the 'Stros to make the WC..because Allegra deserves it..
Awwww! Hey, I'll take any reason, just get there for once, huh, 'Stros? ;-)
Well, we've guaranteed a season win of the ChiSox (4/7 already) and are looking for the home series sweep tomorrow with our All Star pitcher on the mound and the ChiSox All Star pitchers dispatched with extreme prejudice.
Without the homers from Curt, both games would have been without any drama at all.
And a big thank you to the Royals for Tony Graffanino: .358 BA, 10 RBI, 16 Runs. That's ridiculous.
Actually its 4 of 6 that they have taken from the Chisox so far this season. (split four games in Chicago and have taken the first two at Fenway)
4/6, but we have banked 4/7, because we will play 7 games total.
Agree. Very nice pick-up by Theo.
Mike Remlinger on the other hand.....Ugh.
Hey, Bellhorn should always be remembered for what he did in the playoffs and series for the Sox. He hit a 3 run home run in game 6 that stood as the game winner, he hit another in game 7 against the Wankees to silence the crown after Pedro let the Yankees wake up and then he hit the game winner in game 1 of the Series off of Pesky's pole. Without his home runs we don't win it. If you need to hold someone accountable for K-horn, blame Theo for giving him $2.7 million.
And yes, we are big fans of Tony G. in my house!!!!
And his homers will be replayed on DVDs (or their equivalent) across Red Sox Nation for decades to come!
I agree Bellhorn did have some big hits in the playoffs this year. But he has had a terrible year and for 2.7 million dollars a year you cant stike out every third at bat.
The Infinity ERA Club, baby. He gets a special pin, I bet.
I can't tell whether you jinxed us or I jinxed us with Game 7 not being played, but I'm happy either way. We swept, at home, the team with the best record in baseball. And if we play them after the season is over, we'll have Foulke back, maybe. Even if it's the open day on Labor Day, Foulke may be back.
Cautiously optimistic here. For the first time this season I am beginning to think they might be good enough to repeat.
If Clement can't retunr to his pre-ASG form, our two best pitchers would be Wells and Wake. Last year it was Shill and Petey. How's that for a difference of a year?
Or Arroyo. He does lead the team in Quality Starts -- kind of artificial but he consistently pitches into the 7th allowing a couple runs here and there.
The guy would be regarded as a legit frontline starter if he hadn't had those unfortunate cornrows.
I'd never noticed that nobody can run on Arroyo/Varitek until I just checked the stats.... 16 SB, 11 CS, for his CAREER. 5 SB, 6 CS with the Sox.
Wonder if you want to try and defend their resulkts tonight? Bradford gives up 2 hits and a run and Schilling screws the pooch again....
ROFL! I'm sure that could never have happened, since according to you the problem with those miserable pitchers Bradford & Timlin et al is inherited runners, and they didn't inherit any.
Why don't you stick to calling in to talk radio to moan and whine every time someone gives up a run?
The Sox let a few offensive opportunities slide, and Schilling got hit. That's your ballgame. Not Bradford giving up (shock!) a whole entire run!
