The Sox lead the Yanks by 5. Not 3 1/2.

The Yanks will score, too, of course, but I think the Rangers bp is better than the Yanks (except for closer).

I know the series has already started, but there ain't much left of the Rangers BP after we got through pummelling it. Yanks are lucky to get our sloppy seconds.

Jason Veritek. Ask around baseball and most pitchers will tell you that he makes that pitching staff a whole lot better.

And then there's Jorge Posada ....

This pitching pipeline looks really good:

Papelbon
Lester
Hansen
Alvarez
Delcarmen

If he pitches like this, he'll be in Pawtucket soon and on the roster after September 1.

True that.

But Jon Papelbon will probably be back before Hansen makes it.

How many pitchers d'ya figure we carry in the playoffs? 10? 11?

Rotation: Schilling Wells Wake Clement
Pen: Arroyo _______ Bradford *Myers Timlin Foulke

Any guesses on how many more times Francona will throw Remlinger up against lefties before he realizes he's a righty specialist?

Well, it worked out like I predicted-- with Mo being the difference (ending that bases loaded rally). I just thought that Proctor would only last 2 innings and give up 5-6 runs.

What the hell is in the water down there that they can grab homeless men off the street and send them to the mound for 5-6 innings of league-average or better work?

Ridiculous.

You carry 11 in the LDS and LCS. Series could go either way.

I'd like to see Papelbon and either Delcarmen or Hansen on the roster. Bradford and Myers aren't fooling anybody any longer.

What is amazing is that he touched 90 mph on his slider, which is his real MLB plus pitch.

Idiot alert: I have never seen Hansen pitch, and I know nothing of his mechanics. But to generate the rotation and velocity necessary for a 90 mph slider has to be one heck of a stress on the elbow.

Maybe time to get him to the big leagues and get some use out of him before he gets his inevitable TJ surgery and has to sit on the shelf for 18 months.

Bradford and Myers aren't fooling anybody any longer.

Are you kidding me? They're both pitching very well. Timlin, Bradford, Myers are 1-2-3 in ERA on the Sox.

In his last seven outings, his line is:

4.1 IP, 2H, 1BB, 0K, 1ER
6.1 IP, 8H, 2BB, 3K, 1ER
6.2 IP, 7H, 1BB, 2K, 1ER

Mix and match.

did you see any of the games versus Texas or Minnesota? These guys sucked. Timlin allows the majority of his inherited runners to score and Bradford is doing even worse.

By the way, the OBP allowed by two of those clowns are .381 and .476. OBP is one of the determining factiors of what wins in today's game.

Timlin was solid earlier this year but not in the last month.

So many teams would give their left arms (all of them) for three relievers who "suck" like Timlin, Bradford, and Myers.

By the way, the OBP allowed by two of those clowns are .381 and .476.

The season OnBase Against averages for the three are .305, .326, .324.

The SLG against: .323, .375, .382

I'm afraid you have nothing but the talk show caller's line of "they suck".

Batting average means how many hits they give up but it does not include walks, which when added back in, shows a far less effective group. And, the rate that inherited runners score on these guys shows that they are simply not capable of shutting down a rally late in the game. Who cares if the slugging is low if Timlin or Bradford comes into a game with men on and walks the first guy then gives up a single to allow a man to score? In two games against Texas all three got hit, Bradford and Timlin allowed men to score and Timlin needed good defensive plays from Manny and Millar to escape further damage.

I quoted ON-BASE AGAINST

Their Opponents' Batting Averages are .226, .275, .282, respectively.

In two games against Texas

Ah, well, two games, there ya go, time to release our three best relievers.

I cited the two games against Texas and don't forget their wonderfull work against Minnesota. Timlin allows almost 70% of his inherited runners to score. What makes him so great in your eyes?

Yes, Embree got old and lost it (the plus is that he is in NY screwing the pooch for them now) and Mantei ruined his ankle and Foulke blew of surgery in the offseason and had a sh*tty first half of the year.

That these are our three best relievers is troubling though...

THE GUY HAS A FRICKIN 1.42 ERA! He's having a great year. Bradford's been very good. Myers is having a terrific year.

If you don't want inherited runners scoring maybe it'd be a good idea if you don't leave the bases loaded with nobody out. There's a reason those runs are charged to the pitcher who put 'em on base in the first place.

Let's see, since Timlin is generally coming in after Myers and Bradford it stands that he is allowing their baserunners to score, doesn't it? And, I assert that ERA doesn't mean that much any more. What does matter is who gets on base when you come it, how many you can strike out per nine innings and if you can keep the ball in the park. Timlin doesn't give up the long ball I grant you but the inherited runners thing is a real problem.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen Bradford from his old days in Oakland and he was very good at what he did. He just hasn't been all that effective in Boston so far.

Relievers are not become magical creatures who can prevent all hits when they have runners on base. Most of inherited runner results are luck and the situations a reliever is put in; some of it is strikeouts and popups.
