NASCAR and Our National Anthem
Me. Just me.
Posted on 08/06/2005 5:59:31 PM PDT by Pete'sWife
I just sat down to watch the Busch race from Indy.
Unfortunately, I tuned in too early - early enough to hear the "song stylist" butcher Our National Anthem.
I turned the race off, and will watch something - ANYTHING - else.
Additionally, I phoned the NASCAR corporate offices (1-386-253-0611) to voice my displeasure.
Our National Anthem is regularly mangled, distorted, and abused before most sporting events. It is NOT intended to be a lounge act.
I'm not putting up with it anymore. I will change the channel each and every time a "singer" sings this song as he or she "interprets" it.

Usually the whole opening of national anthem/prayer is very well done, I missed this though so am in no place to comment.

I don't watch NASCAR but I agree that the ridiculous "interpretations" I've heard are really annoying.

The National Anthem is very difficult to sing. The trick is to start off at the low end of the voice register. But if somebody has the upper range the result makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Uhhhh...the coast is clear. She's done singing. You're missing a good race.
But that was pretty horrendous.

Personally I feel the national anthem should be changed to America the Beautiful.......

Let's have a little vocabulary test, shall we?
Let's see how many one-word descriptions we can come up with to describe that massacre.
I'll start. Massacre.

I did the same. Turned it off because it was an insult.
Am now watching John Wayne in "Fort Apache" on FMC.

These so-called singers would butcher those songs, too.
