Word For The Day,. Friday, August 5, 2005
August 5, 2005 | Argh

Posted on 08/05/2005 2:04:23 AM PDT by Argh

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of four "Words for the Day".

1. habromania

Noun: [from Greek words habros meaning graceful or delicate and mainesthai to be mad]:

a kind of insanity during which the delusions are of a cheerful character

2.quackle [onomatopoeic]

to choke or suffocate

3. uranism [YUR-en-ism: from the Greek Urania, another name for the Greek goddess of sex and love Aphrodite. This is what my 3-volume Webster’s says. I thought Urania was just the Muse of astronomy. Then there was the Titan Uranus who was the sky god and first ruler. He was the son of Gaea, who created him without help. He then became the husband of Gaea (why the complex is named after Oedipus, who at least didn't know he was marrying his mom, instead of Uranus, is beyond me, but I digress) and together they had many offspring, including twelve of the Titans. His rule ended when when Cronus, encouraged by Gaea, castrated him. He either died from the wound or withdrew from earth.]

a homosexual condition especially when involving physically normal males

4. Friday word:

souteneur [pronounced soo-ten-EUR, from French sustenir to support]

A type of pimp, a man who cohabits with a prostitute, lives off her earnings, and often solicits for her - also called cadet

Example sentence:
Souteneur: think Bill and President Hillary.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using one or more of the Words for the Day in one or more sentences.
The sentences must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

xshub has cowboy boots. we are here at the airport with the laptop waiting for our flight. it isn't so bad, i prefer sitting waiting for the flight to worrying about rushing to make it. we will change planes in DFW> i sure hope that whyisa, grimmy and vast are there to meet me : )

You are right - waiting for the plane is far less stressful than worrying about getting there on time........

Well considering that the drive would be less than 45 minutes for Vast, but over 3 hours for me and/or Grimmy, you can guess who won't be there! lol

How 'bout those Spurs??? My dentist used to sit near George Strait at the games, wearing a baseball cap and just sitting with his wife and kids, being a regular guy.

I sat next to a ninety-yo lady on the way from DFW to IAD - it was her first flight.

She held my hand, all the way home, to keep me from being scared.

;)

Next time I am in ELP, I think I will get new boots. Haven't had cowboy boots since I was a teenager.

Thanks - home now. I was a little worried, because I had a bad dream about wind sheer - it worked out ok, though. I had to grab the stewerdess at one point, and plop her down in my lap. She was just about to slap me, when the plane took a dive - we dropped a few thousand feet, as I held her down.

After that it was ok.

I am sure the xsclann had a much nicer ride.

It was a little hard to explain...

She asked, how did you know the plane would drop?

"I dreamt it..." Ok, I did not say that. I said, "I felt a bump."

That poor lady was looking at me funny for the rest of the flight.

But, hey - she probably thought I was a perv, too!
