I have to admit I didn't know this.
DEI director of motorsports Richie Gilmore said he is close to signing Tony Eury Jr., an employee of 15 years who is currently crew chief for the #15 for Michael Waltrip. "The Eurys have never had contracts; they've always just been there," Gilmore said. "It's always been an agreement and a year-to-year deal and Tony Jr. has told me he's not going anywhere. We're working on a deal and it would be his first contract ever."(St Petersburg Times)(8-7-2005)

Sunday morning
Jayski update (at least the parts not covered yesterday)...
- Mikey's close to announcing his 2006 plans, and he won't be leaving the #15 before Homestead on his own.
- While the Fusion tested well at AMS, the Monte Carlo SS fell flat on its face.
- Rocket extends his contract with Penske South another 3 years, carrying him through 2009 (there's also another 3-year option).

And some more "All My Silly Seasons" from
Speed -
- More on the Kenseth/McMurray/Roush kerfuffle - Roush says he didn't want to discuss Kenseth's outburst (only that Matt will be with Roush in 2006), Matt said he overreacted, and one of the main reasons why Ganassi wouldn't allow McMurray to be bought out was that Havoline has a contract with McMurray through 2006 as well.
- Penske has zeroed in on a couple of drivers that "have alternatives" to do the "Next Call" in the blue deuce, and we should know more from the team by the end of August. Newman says he hopes to be consulted on Rusty's replacement.
- John Darby, Cup director, said that Toyota does not have any official tests scheduled for the possible Camry Cup/Busch car. Such a test would need to happen by Sept. 1 for Toyota to move up from the Crasftsman Truck Series next year.
