Protection similar to what an internet service provider offers can be implemented by just about anyone with their own domain name, and access to their server. Domain names and web hosting have become so cheap that it is not all that uncommon for people to have their own website, or at least a domain name for e-mail. SPAM Assassin is a no-cost, server based spam fighting solution that can be installed on a server, and has become a common feature included on many web hosting packages. Using MailScanner along with spamassassin is an effective combination.

You know..one of the greatest successes of the federal government in the last 25 years has been the "DO NOT CALL" list. I can't rememebr the last time I had a telemarketer call the house, and we used to get inundated. The corollary, and greater problem, in addition to SPAM is of course the viruses and spyware tbat spread through your computer and can ruin it...<P.
So I thinkt hat the first person who announces that he's running for president promising that if elected he will end the SPAM and virus/spyware problem, will be elected in a landslide...It's be a simple, yet very effective campaign..."ELECT ME, AND I WILL FIX THESE THINGS. IF I DON'T, I WILL NOT RUN FOR A SECOND TERM"

youre correct. i still use a mailinator address and have never had any problems. if you google mailinator, the link to the website is the 1st result but clicking on it produces nothing. they must have taken it down.

August 01, 2005How sad. Judging from these great tips, few if any new ideas have surfaced since the late 20th Century.

The two best tools to beat spam are Mailwasher and SneakEmail.
SneakEmail lets you set up email accounts that point to your actually email account but adds an extra hop to the return route so when you get spam on that address, just delete it...thereby severing the connection. Mailwasher is a good second defense as it lets you view any email on your ISP's server before it is downloaded to your machine. But then Ern...you probably already knew that.
