Police said Rusty Wayne Sills has quite a collection -- of women's underwear.
Sills is charged with stealing women's undies and shoes -- and it allegedly isn't been the first time.
Police said he would steal bras, panties and socks from the laundry room at an apartment complex in the Des Moines, Iowa, area. Officers said they found hundreds of ladies' unmentionables, and shoes, too, when they searched Sills' home.
According to officers, Sills was caught on a security camera videotape stealing from the laundry room. He's now charged with fifth-degree theft. At the Sun Prairie Apartments in West Des Moines, Wendy Corlew never expected someone would steal her belongings.
"I had underwear, boots and a tank-top stolen," Corlew said.
Other women also reported things missing after doing their laundry at the complex.
Keith Denner, of Sun Prairie Apartments, said the complex has 100 cameras connected by fiber optics.
"One of those was in the laundry room. Fortunately, we had a shot of him and gave it to the police," Denner said.
West Des Moines police arrested Sills, who has a history of stealing women's underwear and shoes going back more than 20 years.
"It's very creepy. It's definitely is not something you'd normally think would happen around here," Corlew said.
Officers also searched Sills' Des Moines home and found hundreds of undergarments, socks and shoes.
John Hernandez, a neighbor, said he saw police at Sills since 9 a.m. Friday bringing out stuff.
A relative at Sills' home had no comment.
In August 1999, Sills appeared in Polk County Court and was charged with a similar crime. Then earlier in that same year, he was charged with stealing women's shoes at Iowa State University.
The Sun Prairie management were happy to be able to help out the investigation of this case.
If you ask women
(in the right way), they'll give you
their undergarments . . .
An "Unmentionable" crime...
LOL, this reminds me of when I worked in Macy's importing division. It was back in the old days, and we used to cable back and forth overseas, everyone got an AM & a PM printout of all the cables rec'd. One of the funniest I remember was one: Urgent inquiry re: ladies underwear for Hong Kong Bachelor....
The HK Bachelor was one of a fleet of cargo ships, they all had names like that: HK Professor, etc.
