Word For The Day, Monday, August 1, 2005
8/1/2005 | Slip 18

Monday, August 1, 2005

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

CHARNAL

Noun
Pronunciation: Charn/el
Etymology: I don’t know. I can’t read the danged thing.

1) (obs) Cemetary
(2) (a)“Charnal House” A building, chamber or other area in which bodies and bones are deposited. (b) A mortuary chapel.

Vastie, this word was in the new Frankenstein book by Koontz. I had never heard it before. I think it describes where the dems are now since President Bush did his recess appointment!

There was a mixup this morning with subs. Please don't put all of us in the Charnal House.

Of course, it wasn't Conseco's place to even write a book about baseball. He could have written about his experiences with steroids, but not anyone else's experience.

My dog was on prednisone for three years. I'm not writing a book about it.

It is time to consign the Democratic Party to the charnal house of History.

I can't imagine not being able to come in here. A year before I retired from court reporting, I didn't even have an internet connection in my office. I demanded it because I needed to send data to my notereaders. I got it. But no other reporter wanted it. Strange.

I retired in 1995, so it was before FR, I think.

xs is on Mountain Time. I don't think she realized what time it was. She asked Secret Garden to set up a new WFTD. SG did at the same time I did. I had no idea what was going on, and it was getting late, so I set up a room. SG had the Mods take hers away. I think that's what happened.

I owe all of you, anyway. You've taken so many of my days and gave me needed relief when I needed it. I really do appreciate it.
