The Red Sox just announced that the next time Manny Ramirez doesn't run out a fly ball, they will make him a "recess appointment" to the waiver list..again...Amazing week, fellow BB fans..nothing much happened...why?

FYI..This is the FIRST time since 1996 that the Yankees are not either in FIRST PLACE in the AL EAST, or in FIRST PLACE in the AL wildcard race..

Great post.
Love the Sox. I wish I still lived in MA if only so I could see the Sox at Fenway. Camden Yards, while nice, it not the same.

Camden yards is a beautiful ball park, and Boog's Place is a lot of fun....good food, and a great view of the game....Off topic, but years ago I took a tour of the old Boston Garden...I'll never forget the NBA visitors locker room..it was smaller than my walk-in closet..I mean Shaq O'Neil couldnt' fit in there by himself..It was the pits...absolute pits..

I read that they would turn off the hot water for the Vistors at the Gahden.
FYI Heres my personal Ballpark list:
Fenway Park Best ballpark in the Universe, but the seats are too small
Yankee Stadium The focus of evil in the modern world, surrounding area makes Baghdad look like Paris.
Veterans Stadium Not as bad as I expected
Three Rivers Stadium Clean, serviceable
Memorial Stadium Dingy, no parking, hard to get to. 3 Buck night = good times
Camden Yards Prototype for every ballpark since, I think its a tad too big and I wish the concourse wasnt behind the seats so you could get a beer and watch the game
Turner Field New, shiny, Camden Yard-esq but its in a scary neighborhood
Astro Dome It was like watching a game in a warehouse
King Dome It had endless expanses of concrete and had all the charm of a highway overpass. Funny story: My then GF and I stopped at the stadium to get tickets for that nights game. While standing in front of the King DOME, she asks: What if it rains?
Pac Bell Park Its in a great spot and is convenient to downtown, but its a bit too big and it gets COLD at night! My Italians sausage was overcooked and the peppers and onions appeared to be steamed(!). I guess it serves me right to try to get an Italian Hot outside of Boston.
Bank One Ball Park Cool roof, but one should not be able to get a Big Mac at a ball game.
RFK Its sole merit being that it allows me to drive only 30 minutes to see NL baseball.

Fenway - the best in the business (even if you stare at a pillar the whole game)
RFK - if only to see the Nats... because you sure can't watch the games on TV thanks to Comcast.

Fenway - the best in the business (even if you stare at a pillar the whole game) Yep... we have tickets to an upcoming game at Fenway where we will be doing just that! ;-)

Fenway Park Best ballpark in the Universe, but the seats are too small Yep, but the other beautiful old antique ballpark - Wrigley Field in Chicago - is a close #2 right behind Fenway, IMHO... ;-)

LOL... Yankees lose, Red Sox win! I believe the Sox are now 3.5 ahead of the Yanks (?). Manny drove in four runs tonight, three on a fourth-inning homer. All is right in Manny's world again... ;-D

Fresh Start
Back In Lineup, Ramirez Has Four RBI
August 3, 2005
By DAVID HEUSCHKEL, Courant Staff Writer
BOSTON -- Manny Ramirez reached through the Green Monster door, pulled out a homemade sign that in all likelihood was written by Kevin Millar and held it up before the first pitch.
It read: "The New Episode ... `Manny Being Manny.'"
Manager Terry Francona didn't mind.
"He can carry all the signs he wants as long as he hits homers," Francona said. "He had a smile on his face and he swung the bat with authority. That's OK. I'm glad he put the sign down before the game started."
Ramirez returned to the lineup Tuesday night and made an immediate impact, hitting a homer and driving in four runs as the Red Sox came from behind to beat the Royals 6-4 at Fenway Park for their sixth straight victory...

Good luck to the Mets tonight! Sure wish we could be at Shea tonight to see Pedro pitch... it's a bit easier for us to get up to Boston (especially on weeknights) than to NYC. I'll remind Zelig to look into tickets to see Pedro for the remaining season...
Have you been to a game at Shea yet this year?

Career RBI, active leaders:
1. Palmeiro: 1739
2. Big Hurt: 1465
3. JuanGon: 1404
4. Manny: 1367
5. Ruben Sierra: 1307
Of that list, RBI/at-bat leaders:
1. Manny: 0.2306
2. JuanGon: 0.2142
3. Big Hurt: 0.2106
4. Palmeiro: 0.1817
5. Ruben Sierra: 0.1663
If Manny had as many at-bats as Palmeiro, he'd have 2207 RBI.
Manny will play until the end of the 2008 season. He should end this year with a career total of 1420 RBI (150 this season). If he can get 550 ABs, he should get 125 RBI each year until 2008. That puts him at 1795.
Here's the full list of career RBI leaders that would be ahead of him:
Ruth
Gehrig
Cobb
Foxx
Yaz
Williams
How's that for good company? I don't think people appreciate how historically significant Manny is. He'll be a first ballot HOFer. Why would we want this guy to end his career in another uniform? It's insanity.
