WTF does that have to do with the projection by some faux mindreader that MS supposedly wants to use GPL'd code?

It's probably pretty accurate. Microsoft uses tons of BSD code (particularly in the networking ara), if you run strings on a few microsoft .exes you will see the University of California copyrights go by. That's one copyright that MSFT is happy to deal with, because, normal ysers won't do that sort of stuff however, and most people don't even realize it's in there. The GPL is a different kettle of wax, and I'm sure there's stuff in there that MSFT would love to include if they had a way to do so. This would give them a pretty easy way to do it.
