In Rox now...think it's almost full.
ping
umm... yeah, amd I going to have to get a PS/3 to be cool here?
Workin on it. I have been out of town alot recently. I am looking at renting a server.
Hey... that would be cool. Let us know what you find out.
I was into Brothers In Arms but I've moved on. Then I was obsessed with Rome: Total War for a while, but I conquered the world and it took months and I moved on. I was disappointed by Battlefield II. Now I'm playing Vice City, and I sort of wish I were playing San Andreas, but I wouldn't want to stop VC now, I got 20K in the bank and soon I'm going to start making my move if I can ever get past these boat missions.
I don't think the PS/3 has come out yet, but I've heard chatter about it here and there. I've been thinking I'm going to hold off on buying San Andreas until the XBOX 360 comes out.
In the meantime, VC is eating up all my spare time. I can't get out of it. I wake up and play and am late for work. I run home to it (trying to remember I'm on the road in Houston, not Vice City) and stay up too late. I skipped church last weekend so I could sit there and play VC all day long. It's got an unholy hold on me.
So shall I put you down for Vice City? Is that a pc game or xbox, or PS2? I havn't heard of it.
Vice City is the GTA game right before San Andreas. I'm playing the XBOX version but it's also on PS2. I guess there is a PC version that is ez to get these hacks for but I've never seen it.
I'm obsessed with it but it sure isn't easy.
Hey... i'm on an empty server thats good right now...
Rogue Saints. 69.61.52.170
Tank Vs chopper anyone?
Ok guys, I have shopped around and see some options for a server. The issue now is money (of course). Who all is really committed and has the jack to pony up every month? You pay by number of users and we have the choice of public or private. I am willing to pony up my share and admin the server if I have support. We can setup clan pay where we each take a turn or pay a monthly dues of the total. 32 players is around $130 a month.
Ok here is server bf2info.com and they are begging for players. Quote off planetbattlefield follows:
Ping and all that hasn't been a problem when the server *does* get full. It's actually been quite flawless when it's running with 40 players. The server doesn't crash/reset overnight either.. it just starts dwindling down @ like 4-5am CST and once it's empty people don't care to wait around. (That's my guess)
We run a tight ship and we're there for the community so anything you can do to help get the server back on it's feet would be most appreciated. We're always looking for Clans and Players to call the server "home" and frequently game there. We do have perks set up for those players that do actually game there on a regular basis.
Again, I appreciate any help you and your buds can do to get this server up and running; and that goes for anyone else out there, thanks fellas.
Thats like over $16 a month if we were able to get all 8 of us to chip in. My (ahem) GUESS is that we have a fraction of that 8 (3-5) that would want to rent our own server. Thats like $24-$43 per person. If we can't set up our own free server, then my opinion is lets wait until we have a lot more BF2ers here that play together more like a team. Once that happens, then renting may be more justifiable and economic.
Wow there are other Xbox gamers here!!! Woot!
Yes.... and its good to know the thread is working!... thanks!
How did you hear about us? search? or w.o.m.?
Yeah I can't find a way to do free. Even the folks I know that have server farms can't give away the bandwidth when they are charging a minimum $400 a month for a server.
There seems to be quite a few public servers out there already. The tricky part is getting us all together at the same time on the same server. Rox is currently one of our favorites. However, not everyone may be able to ping to it very well. This is why I suggest that we each pick out our favorites, and list them in the table here. Another free alternative would be for us to all install xfire. (i don't know if it supports bf2 yet, but it would be a more efficient way for us to meet live rather than on a chat thread.)
Check out my comments and link to xfire in week 1. I was so impressed with it, that it more or less inspired me to come up with this thread.
I rented a BF server from EA games. Everyone chipped in for about a year, and when they stopped chipping in, guess who got to foot the bill. I was in debt up to my eyeballs.
Check my above thread regarding bf2info server. They are begging for clans to jump in.
That is why the clan pay system was developed. Don't pay you don't play. I hear the pain though.
