There is way too much footage of his guitar skills and live concerts in existence to refute what you have said.
He used heroin, he probably was stoned at some, maybe many of his concerts. But even stoned he was extraordinary.
Even Eric Clapton conceded that Hendrix was better then he.
And it was his guitar skills that people found enduring or endearing. Not the fact that he used drugs. At least for reasonable people.

Even Eric Clapton conceded that Hendrix was better then he. Honestly, I think Clapton blows. I never got it. He should picks some riff, and plays it all the way through the whole song. I never found anything he did unique or interesting, unlike say Jimmy Page.
