OK, all you Freeper baseball afficionados. It's early Sunday evening..it was a hell of a week for the national pastime, and I wanted to get our weekly thread up and running...I won't have a chance late tonight, early tomorrow, and there is much to talk about..
Yes
I laugh all the time when I think about the sorry New Yorkers................apparently like you who has a bee in his bonnet STILL NOW about 1960! We love the game of baseball, you need winning......... what a joke.
Live with it............... Yogi was cool when Maz smoked the ball over the 406 mark............ New Yorkers seem to be without GRACE..... you too!
Get a life!
We love baseball as a game .......... you have to PAY FOR IT!
BUMMER!
You edit like the NY Times does..what I wrote was " a small voice tells me occasioanlly that perhaps the Chisox ain't for real....."..so, go "blah blah, blah," yourself..(G)..BTW..do yu wamnt on the [ing list?
I feel awful for fans in your postion (Pitt, KC, etc.) Unlike the Steelers, who know the Jets can't come and steal Big Ben away, Pirate fans never get to view great players as theirs to keep, like a George Brett for the Royals, under baseball's current system. That's very wrong.
I would totally 'preciate the ping - thanks!
Very angry post for someone who loves baseball...
Two of my favorite baseball stories....Germany Schafer, who played for Washington and Detroit, from about 1900-1920. Early in his career, he hit sharp ground ball to the pitcher's moiund. In those days, the ump calling balls and strikes stood behind the pitcher's mound. Seems that just before the pitch, a ball fell from the ump's pocket, to the ground. Schaefer's ball hit the other ball, like a pool shot. One ball went to rhe 3rd baseman, the other to the SS..Both fielded the balls and threw to 1B. The first baseman caught one with his glove, the other barehanded. The first base ump stopped any potential argument by yelling.."Yer OUT!! BOTH balls beat you to the bag!"
Schaefer also has notoriety for being responsible for a major change in baseball rules..Long extra inning game , a tie score..one out..runner on 3rd, Schaefer is at bat. He's walked, to get to the next batter, who is a very lousy hitter, can't bunt at all, and there are no other players left on the bench..First pitch..Schaefer steals second...No throw..next pitch, trying to draw a throw, Schaefer steals FIRST...until that time, there was NO rule against it...
Source for these is a great book called "Low and Inside"..ublished in the 50's..full of baseball anecdotes and stories from the first 75 years of the game...Long out of print..my copy is falling apart..it was recently re-issue in papperback..You can get a used copy on Amazon for about $10...I heartily recommend it..heck.. I insist you buy one...you'll be laughing for a week..you'll thank me..
BTW..anything new on Rollin?
Done...BTW..you do realize that my comment to you was in jest?...
I am the F.Lee Levin of scouting.
I do not need payed............. I'll do it for free....... I'm already well paid!
I could be the Bobby Bethard of the Bucs........as Bobby did with the Redskins back in the decent old days when the Super Bowls were apparent!
*****
Totally serious!
I will admit for that millesecond before I got to your "(G)" I was worried I ticked you off with my blah (x3). Then I picked up on it. As a lifelong Sox fan - it was very very difficult for me to mot think it was mirrors. But I finally couldn't resist anymore. Just in time for us to drop 4 out of the last 7....
Get a life.
New Yorkers know nothing about sweet miracles like 1960.
Breath slowly........ it must still piss you off!
ROFL!!!
Excellent!
I'll be back after my work is finished.
Do you guys remember the old Crosley Field in Cinci, with the elevated right field porch? I got to see ONE game there, as a kid..it was about the coolest thing I'd ever seen in a ball park..of course, my dad used to tell me that Gehrig and Ruth were buried in centerield in Yankee Stadium...
LOL!
Very silly post for someone who is still breathing.....
Anyway, when are the Pirates going to appear in the World Series again for a rematch?
BTW, MY work is never finished.....
Can you imagine that crap being on a field today...............
But even if you found and signed the second coming of Roberto Clemente himself, a small market team like your Bucs couldn't keep him beyond the first contract. And that's wrong, and sad.
I was 6-7 at the time..my dad told me there was a subway under it..when they built it they didn't have enough room..ergo..and being from NYC,I of course believed it all..BTW..do you remember why? I have no idea..
Yep!
