The last two minutes of about a million Dallas Cowboys games when Roger Staubach was their quarterback.
:-)
Tyhey broke my heart when the did it, but I have to say the 1986 Mets.
Two outs, nobody on, facing the loss of the Series, yet they won the game and later Game Seven.
Ironically, I would also say the Red Sox in the AL Playoffs of the same year. Facing elimination in Game Five, down three in their last at-bat, they rallied to tie it, and Don Baylor hit simply one of the most improbable home runs in baseball history.
Those are two of my favorites.
Individual? Ok, then, Ben Hogan hands down! Almost killed in a car crash, he spent months in the hospital and could barely walk for a year. He started his recovery by walking across his living room, then his yard, then his neighborhood. When he didn't come home his wife would get in the car and go find him as he would be somewhere unable to move any farther. He went on to win two more US Opens and a British. He probably would have won the Grand Slam but in those days there was actually a scheduling conflict between the PGA and the British and transoceanic flights were still not the norm. And that was in the day when you had to play 36 holes on Saturday. Hogan's legs never fully recovered, he had to soak them for long periods after every round.
Nope, Buffalo Bills beating the Houston Oilers after being down by nearly 35 points going into the 4th quarter.
I don't agree with the criteria used by SI to define a "comeback." It should be based upon sporting events (games) and not on personal adversity.
They have had seperate articles on that. This was specifically personal comebacks, not team comebacks in games.
Oh...
(Quote Nicholson in "A Few Good Men" - "Don't I look like the F'in A'hole.")
The horse...
Notre Dame breaks out to a 24-0 first half lead, only to be buried under a Trojan avalanche of 55 straight points. Final score -- USC 55, Notre Dame 24.
Anthony Davis ended Ara Parseghian's coaching career that day.
I remember watching that game!! I was 9 at the time, but always loved football...:)
My brother was a cowboys fan & I a vikings fan. We came to blows on several occasions! ;o)
