The New York senator also prodded the ESRB to revise its mature rating on "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" to adults only, which the group did.

No cries of "censorship." Chalk up a victory for Mz Rodham Clinton. Her supporters will.

Dude, that hid sex acts in the software code - they deserve what they get. For market forces to work we need to punish them for this.

I believe they were nuts in doing it, lied about it then, acknowledge it.

They are low-lifes and we need them out of the industry.

This article makes it sounds like the third party added the content. That is not the case. The content was already present in the game as released. The third party program, Hot Coffee, simply changes a single censor indicator in the code, thus releasing the subgames.

In prior articles, the author of the game claimed the scenes may have orginally been created for release but were not included in the final version. Even though the scenes were not included in the final version, the code for them was never removed from the program.

Anyway, that is my understanding of it.

Seriously, this mod (that's included in the retail package!) needs a "Mature" label. There is absolutely no way in heck a game that shows user controlled graphic sex can be anything less.

Great game though, the game map is as large as my county.

Typical DemonRAT statist response; instead of going after the hackers that turned a marginally-explicit game (though one that shouldn't be played by teens) into a hard-core one, they go after the Big Corporation. When you can't get a computer game anymore, remember Hitlery Rotten Von Der Schlikmeister. ANY Personal Computer game can be modified into a highly-objectionable title.

this whole thing is stupid: it is "okay" to sell a game to teenagers where they can stomp prostitutes to death, but it is not "okay" to sell a game if they can have virtual sex with them. What is the purpose of prostitutes again?

The "moral" of this story [besides the usual political pandering] is: violence is okay, but not sex.

this is genocidally stupid. no wonder the birth rate is declining

in the meantime, Rockstar Games gets a huge injection of free publicity for a game that's pretty well "over", and some useless politicians get to look good for the cameras and the yahoos at home

They'll take out the "content" that "Hot Coffee" is using and rerelease the game.

They'll take a big hit on having to recall games from store shelves and create new CDs.

Since it's a third party application that is modifying the game code, rather than just entering some form of cheat code, I think the ESRB is wrong to change the rating despite the fact that the content is part of the game that's just been disabled.

Take-Two will likely be a bit more careful to strip developers toys out of their games in the future.

The game will still be sold with the content if was intended to ship with. They'll likely get a good advertising boost out of all this, and the version that's being made into Adults Only will be come a collector's item.

Lol, it was ok for teens to shot cops, carjack, beat hookers to death and go on a kill crazy rampage but throw in some virtual sex and it's Katie bar the door. I can't believe Rockstar rolled over on this one.

The additional material is unlocked by a software modification dubbed Hot Coffee, allegedly created by hackers and readily available on the Internet.

So the preverted programmers blamed hackers....yeah, that's the ticket.

Will they take it off the shelves?

I am 22, but perhaps I better get my copy now before they are gone from the shelves.

I know it's Hillary! But I would not necessarily call it censorship. Parents should monitor the games their kids play and should know whether or not a game is suitable or not for their kids. But this will not result in anyone not playing the game who really wants to. But it does help a parent, assuming that they are really parenting and monitoring what their kids do, make a decision. I don't see anything wrong with that.

But that being said, there is still no substitute for parenting. Being aware of what your kids are watching or playing. Nanny government won't do it for you.

The company clearly brought this upon themselves. They shouldn't whine about the fact that their game is now appropriately labeled.
