Due to my stupid cable internet issues (that have lasted the WHOLE MONTH OF JULY), I couldn't participate much last night. But here's my review, FWIW:

Dump the hostess. The voice is not good. The fashion choices worse (kept having to hike up the straps to her dominatrix top).

Less narration in general. I don't want to hear that much explaination. I want to see the dancing and hear the judges/contestants reactions.

The music was good. Enjoyed the dancing portions of the show. Too much break dancing, esp. in light of the fact that so few of those shown made it through the "real" dancing phase of the competition.

Favorite contestants:
The overweight black guy who could really dance (from the NY tryouts). He's very likeable.
The guy (with the pregnant wife) who didn't make it.
The 29-year-old woman, once she stopped being so irritating for the cameras.
The latin dancer with the curly hair.
The Irish dancer. Will be interesting to see if she can develop the skills she needs in a short amount of time.

Least Favorite
The "male" dancer with the spandex issues. I looked at my son when he first came on the show and said, "I bet he's from Julliard." I was right. Those poor kids who go to that school get so insulated from the real world that they don't know what's engaging and what's disturbing!

The Diva girl.

All of the Britney Wannabees.

Pamela. She scared me.

The hostess. BORING, with a bad voice. The bad thing about having a female host is that females tend to be too concerned with how they look, so they won't relax and have fun. Any host that won't have fun should be canned. Also, points deducted for calling the 29-year-old's fiance "[her] father".
