I forgot to add that money is kind of an issue as well. Some of these curricula and online school services cost almost as much as the parochial tuition. We are hoping for something reasonable to get us started.

One of the first things to do is contact Home School Legal Defense Association and a local home education support group. Find out the legal aspects for your state. I see you do not have a profile on FR so I have no idea where you live. You also need to determine if you want to home school due to conviction (desiring to do what God is telling you to do) or convenience (a worldly desire). Good luck in your experiences, your life will be changed forever.

I have homeschooled for 12 years using the School of Tomorrow (ACE) curriculum because I also work. Either that or Alpha Omega, which is the same concept, costs less than 300 per year per child. And they are very easy to administer. VERY easy.
Because I find these two a bit weak in literature, I supplement their reading with the Sonlight Curriculum books (usually available used online or at the library) and at the higher levels, Abeka Literature books.
I also have the kids work in my office.
My kids are very well read as a result and their phone skills are great (wink).

The internet is a vast resource. Knowing what grades they are would be helpful, if u like, freepmail if you don't want to post it.
