How's your mare doing today? Where do you get Hydrated Lime? It's not the same stuff as sold for lawns, is it?

She's doing all right, no heat or swelling, just a great awful open cut. The vet is coming tomorrow. I took down hot water and soap and cleaned the lower leg off --- all that icky stuff that drips out of a wound. Then spray with hydrogen peroxide to foam away all debris.

Then sprayed that away with water from the hose.

Then furazone and hydrated lime.

You get it at about any farm store. I don't know if it is the same stuff for lawns or not --- probably. Maybe would use it to correct too-acid soil.

Remember it is not *lye* -- that is a caustic and burns. It is *lime*. And it is really handy to have around.
