The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

So sorry Centaur...

What a great life he had, and what a long ride you two had together. Sorry for your pain now, but you did all he needed for you to do. His life was designed to be shorter than your own. Do you have pictures you can share of him?

I remembered the camera, but forgot to take picturesL:).

Turned out this lady is looking to buy a horse, and I was riding Rusty, who did great. And we rode about 2 /2 hours. She really liked him and is coming back Thurs. to try him. She said, "if he doesn't buck me off I'll take him." She would be just the type of owner I would like to see him go to. An occasional, easy trail rider. He would actually be more her back up horse. She wants a second horse so her husband could go with her occasionally. She would ride Rusty, and her husband the horse she has now. She mainly just walks down trails, nothing hard.

Sorry to hear of your lost. Stash had a long life, with great care from you. When I was reading, I thought, how did he get "under" a fence. Your journal explains how he was a "Houdini" of sorts.

Take care, my FRiend.

Well, wouldn't that be super if Rusty works out for her then!

I don't think we're going to go today. It's one of those days where I feel kind of cludgy and lazy, and I know I'd feel better if I had just forced myself to go, but it's late now, and getting hot. It'll be 90 today. And I really do have work I should do, something that needs done by tomorrow morning. So ecurbh is going into town to run errands.... and we'll ride Friday. I'm looking at where to go at the ocean, maybe this weekend. I've really got myself excited about an ocean ride.

Bay needs a haircut and they need wormed, so we'll do that today.

Oh - and about the pictures... ~sigh~

I have a feeling you didn't get the ping this morning. Let me know. I think I know what I did wrong if you didn't get and I will fix it for tomorrow.

Losing an animal you've had for many years is heartbreaking. I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend Stash.

Yeah I guess:). I want to sell him, but I don't. LOL Make sense?

I think is what sold her the most on him was when she saw him playing in the creek. She thought that was a hoot, and when she really started asking lots of questions about him. I had just mentioned I was probably going to sell him.

I didn't get to ask her too many questions, but she is from England. Grew up there as a kid. I kept thinking I needed to aske her from what part so I could tell Rose. I think she must have been here for a long time, she doesn't have much of an accent.

We're actually have a 'cold' front go thru this afternoon, and the high tommorrow is only suppose to be 84. Will make for a great day at Arrowhead.

Speaking of an ocean ride, this is a friend's daughter. The beach is Corpus Christi, Texas.

Words can't express how sorry I am for your loss. Stash was a great horse and he'll live on in your heart forever. Good horses and good dogs can never be forgotten. They are a gift from God gift of pure love and devotion. You did all you could and when you could do no more, you eased his pain. Thanks for sharing his memory with us because now he'll live on in each of us too.

A HORSE'S PRAYER

To Thee, my master, I offer my prayer.

Feed me, water and care for me, and when the day's work is done,

provide me with shelter, a clean, dry bed and stall wide enough for me to lie down in comfort.

Always be kind to me. Your voice often means as much to

me as the reins. Never strike, beat, or kick me when I

don't understnad what you want, but give me the chance

to understand you. Pet me sometimes, that I may serve

you the more gladly and learn to love you.

Make sure that I am properly shod that I may serve you

in comfort.

And finally, Oh My Master, when my useful strength is

gone, do not turn me out to starve or freeze or sell me

to some cruel owner to be slowly tortured and starved to

death; but do thou, My master, take my life in the

kindest way and your God will reward you here and

hereafter. You will not consider me irreverent if I ask

this in the name of Him who was born in a stable.

AMEN

God Bless you, Centaur, you gave him a good life

I know exactly how you feel. I wanted to sell Blade, but I sure miss him now that he's gone. He's living the good life now though. My friend babies him worse than I did. :o)

Makes perfect sense! Of course it does. He's a good horse and you've gone through a lot together. I thought it might be great to have him go nearby where you can see him and even ride with him from time to time with this lady.

You know I should sell this pony, but I won't consider anything more than a lease now.... which might be a good deal for someone... I'd like to see someone working with her, but I want control over where she goes.

That looks like a lotta fun! What kinda bridle is that she's got on her horse? Is it a hackamore? I don't think I've ever seen one quite like it.

Yeah, this lady, Julia, sounds like she could turn out to be a dependable riding buddy. She doesn't work, about my age, and wants to ride a couple times a week, for a couple of hours.

OOPs, she just called. She forgot she has a dentist appointment Thurs. So she is coming tomorrow evening.
