The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yes! Excellent!

I'm sure he appreciates your patience working with him on it.

something that you said tho Hair, made more sense to me than anything. The people advocating leaving horses barefoot, talk about it being natural. Well what you said about taking horses out of their natural enviroment changes what natural is. Horses are not in a natural enviroment when they are being rode, or kept in the same pasture all the time.

I do believe there are horses that can go barefoot. But there are alot of criteria for that. How much the horse is being rode, how good a foot they have, what type of ground they are kept in and rode over. etc. Lots of variables.

I am anxious to see how Cyn holds up when you really start riding her alot. You know I tried the barefoot thing, because I was so frustrated with dealing with farriers. It failed miserably:).

That's just crap.

Why did they wait so long to start fighting it tho? Not that that matters, it's still crap that they build that thing so close to an existing place. People with money can be real....well I won't say:)

your horses look great:)

I'd sure like to see pictures of you and your kids riding. Is it as hot there as here? It's near impossible to ride now, unless you start at about day break. It's still almost to hot at 9-10 at night.

We're very curious about Cyn too.... he barely takes anything off at 8 weeks.... so by my figuring, if she was ridden too much more than she is now, she'd be wearing faster than she can grow hoof.

She doesn't chip at all though, ever. Her feet look as filed at 8 weeks as they are when the farrier is finished with her. The pony chips off when she's too long.

Oh - Bob called.... he's already pushed it to 1:00. [the sun will set tonight on time, whether Bob wants it to or not!]

Everyone cross your fingers. Kristy was going to ride Rowdy in my arena today. She needs to work him in a smaller pen.

Anyway as soon as she started troting him to the left he was really gimping. He was just shod Tues. so I'm hoping it's nothing more serious then a hot nail. She loaded him up to take to the ranch. Her farrier works there. He didn't do it at all going to the right. I'm waiting on her to call to see if they got it fixed.

Well damn:)..how hot is it there. It would just be way to hot to be getting started at 1:00 here. It will kill horse and rider.

Good news is it's cloudy and 66 degrees right now.

If this were an 80 degree day, I'd be telling Bob we can't wait.

Rats... I hope it's just a hot nail...

Does that feel better as soon as it's fixed or does it then still need to heal? I've never had a hot nail or an abcess from shoeing... but I've seen painful absesses in horse feet before.

I've only had one hot nail, and it was fine as soon as the nail was pulled out. I think as long as you get them quick, so they don't abcess your OK.

It would have to happen now tho when she's doing so good on him:\ ...always something with horses, right:)?

About Cyn not growing fast enough to keep up with wear in the future. Could you give her some kind of supplement to make her feet grow more.

I'd love to have a horse you didn't have to shoe:).

No way.... he'll still be late...

And he will probably have brought 3 different pads to try, and his bridle will be taken apart or he'll need to put a different bit on it or something ;~D

Sheesh.

Any closer and your neighbor would need a crowbar to get out of his own barn. *rolls eyes*

So much of this animosity could be easily avoided if neighbors just ~talked~ to one another, like they used to.

It's a shame that there will be bad blood over something that could have been a really exciting investment in the neighborhood.

Good lord....you have the patience of a saint. I've had people that do that sort of thing, and to tell the truth, I don't ride with them anymore. The window of opprotunity sometime is so small to have the time to ride, I go ballistic when I get screwed out of it by things like that.
