This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I can't imagine what they were thinking, the whole situation is just nuts. I gotta get a pic today and post it. Ya'll will pass out when you see how close it is to the neighbors barn. I must admit, it is a lovely indoor arena. The attached house is on the other side from us so I can't get a good pic of it.
This is Tennessee, IN the big trailer with the gate closed! It's taken me most of the summer to get to this point. When we started, he wouldn't even get half his body in there. Then we progressed to this...
Now we've made it to going all the way to the front, standing quietly while I shut the gate, and backing out in a controlled manner to get out. I haven't hauled him in there yet, but he's never really had a problem with that, just the getting in and out. We'll see I guess. I might try to do it this weekend. I'm just real proud of how well he's done coz he's the most claustrophobic horse I've ever seen.
That is so important. One of the ladies at the get together the other night, was on crutches. Her horse flew backwards out of the trailer, knocked her down and broke her leg. Ruined her riding for a year.
Congrats on being successful with him.
:) Happy Birthday
Outstanding - I'm so glad he's loading okay now. Patience works.
Happy birthday!
How old are you? heh heh just kidding.
Happy Birthday Miss Targets. We share the same month, mine was on the 17th.
Holy crap that's close! Really close!
In the close-up picture, the awning on the indoor looks like it's nearly over the neighbor's barn. I hope they do have to tear it down, just on general principle.
Or at least tear some of it down. That's an awful big building to tear down all the way, and I would hate to see the wasted money, (even though there must have been some trickery and stupidity involved)
Well, if the neighbor wanted an arena to use.... then it'd be cool, but I imagine if there's lawyers involved, they won't be good enough friends for that now.
Cool pics of your horses... they look great.
How's Winnie's feet now? Any unexpected effects from the nerving? Is she still pretty surefooted?
The neighbor just wants it gone and I don't blame them. I really value my privacy and can't imagine someone doing that to me. Also, the land out here goes anywhere from $50,000 an acre to $100,000 an acre so you really don't want people doing things that will lower your property value.
Winnie is doing better than ever, no unexpected side effects. No stumbling at all. She's alot more sure-footed than lazy Tuffy, he stumbles all over himself.
I set up a very small jump in my round pen and I've been lunging Winnie over it. She missed her calling, she's a jumping fool. Mandy wants to start doing some small (18 inch) jumping with her.
Good job:)
It's always such a relief when they start loading well.
Becky
That's great that she's surefooted, but I'd be pretty nervous about jumping her. Is her whole foot numb or just the heel?
