This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
As with everything, my biggest problem is location.
Land is at a premium here, so boarding a horse anywhere within 50 miles of my home is costly.
The one lease I found under $200.00 that was for a 20 year old gelding who lives about 2 hours from me.
~sigh~
*yawn*
I'm tired, folks. See ya in the morning.
Well, Bay thinks 20 is not so old, but the two hour drive would get old :~D
hehehehe...
It wasn't the age of the horse that concerned me (except for the fact that he may have bad habits that are unbreakable at this point) - it was the 2 hour drive.
If it's meant to happen, it'll happen.
And tell Bay I think he doesn't look a day over 10 to me! *grin*
Good morning.
Hair, did you get your truck?
Becky
You going riding today? Don't forget your camera:)
Becky
Mornin' Becky.
No riding at the indoor anymore, I cancelled. They told me that in order for the caretaker to remember to leave the gate open I needed to give them a specific time that I was going to be there. I can't do that because of the heat, I was getting there early on cooler days, later on hotter days. A bad memory just cost those people over $1500 a year extra, not to mention that when I went over my allotted time I always paid more. Oh, and when I saw things that needed to be done that the volunteers didn't do before they left, I did it. I shoveled plenty of manure out of the arena that didn't belong to me.
The woman I set all this up with, Pat, wanted the caretaker to leave the gate latched but unlocked, guess she was too stupid to be able to do that. Pat is out of town and won't be back until August 1. She's gonna be mad that we weren't able to work this out. Pat and the head instructor are the only people up there with any sense and the head instructor is moving to Minnesota.
I'm going through the posts and saw that pretty paint tied to the trailer. My next door neighbor the barrel racer leaves her horses tied in her arena all day. She has the nicest, most patient horses I've ever seen.
We have truck! :~D
Tried to talk Bob into an earlier start for the ride, but failed, we're not leaving till noon.... at least it's cloudy and a little cool this morning. Might not be too hot. :~D
Speaking of my daughter, she had a black balloon tied to my truck's antenna this morning. Today is my birthday. I am depressed...lol
Wonderful. Have a great time on your ride. Such beautiful country to ride in. Enjoy!
We'll be going into new territory today too, hopefully there are new interesting pictures yet to take!
I leased the stallion I had for several years. They had retired showing him, but wanted to keep access to him so they wouldn't sell.
No money was paid to the owner, but I paid all board and upkeep and could keep him or take him where I wanted. I was allowed to breed him if I wanted also.
Most leases I've heard of are like that.... 'free-lease'. The owner wants out from under the daily upkeep but wants to retain oversight and ownership of the horse. I've heard of 'half-leases' too, where the expenses are shared.
I've been looking on different websites to get a good idea of the cost involved.
It's more or less $300-400 per month for a lease. Either because that's what the boarding and upkeep are or because that is the flat lease rate with everything taken care of for you.
No way I can afford that. It's more than my car payment!
Yeah - I suppose it is... and that may be what board is in your area.
Have fun, take lots of picturs.
How long do you think it will take. Noon is rather late for a 15 mile trail marking ride.
Becky
I don't know how long it'll take.... Bob doesn't do anything early or on time...
Maybe I should bring a sleeping bag. ;~\
