The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yes, I think he's going to sign it over tonight...

Of course, he will reserve the right to borrow it to carry junk to the dump, or do other tasks that might scratch up the new truck :~D

I can't remember who said they loved Shire horses, but when I was little they still sometimes used them in the hop fields in Kent, England. I don't know how common hops are here, but they are grown in England to make beer. Pretty good beer too! : ) Here is a link to an old site

Hi everyone, I can't believe how far behind I was in posts. :)

Becky, loved all the pictures of the horses playing and Zeke, and Zeke and Charlie - I'd hate to have to look out at the house that's going up though.

Hair, Friday has the same problem as pony - she's very unsure and nervous. Telling her she done good and patting her works wonders. You can see her immediately relax.

We have an Arab mare in for breeding. She is a dark bay by the registry but looks almost black. No markings at all. Her mane is at least 24" long. I really, really want her :) but she's not for sale. (like I need another horse anyway).

It is HOT here!

LOL! Me too. Beginning to think that I will have to sell them to Frog and her hubby, to ever see them put to work again.

They have the place to keep them and with a camper-wagon,,,,, every weekend could be a get-a-way.

Exactly.... She gets this sortof wild eye look when she's getting confused and stressed, but if I just lay my hand on her neck and talk, she breathes and says "~whew~"

(like I need another horse anyway).

I was gonna say.... so much for herd reduction! :~D

LOL - that's Friday. She is beginning to relax though, and her nervous habit of chewing/sucking (?) on her tongue has really slowed down. She does thrive on repetition and does just fine of she knows what she's supposed to do. She's 7/8 quarter horse :) and such a change from an appy, even though she is technically an app. They hate doing the same thing all the time and their bad habits come from boredom, not nerves.

Oh - but you should see this mare. I'll try to take a picture of her.

Would love to see her.

They're trying for a spotted endurance horse?

Oh She is beautiful! I want her! : )
I don't know why, but even when i was terrified of horses, I was more comfortable around shires. The first horse i ever sat on was a shire and I loved it. The first horse i ever rode was 20 years later.........Misty. (QH/morgan)

Hi Everyone!
I just got back from a splendid ride, but I'm sore has heck. Did a LOT of no stirrup work, and worked on leg yielding. My joints are shouting insults at me as we speak!
