This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
If that ride caused it I think the hair could have grown in by now. All the bite marks and scrapes on Harley from Rocky munching on him have the hair back. The hair grows pretty fast. He's been feeling so good that last few times you rode, I would say it was a temporary thing from the missing pad. Be thankful for that:). I understand about feeling bad about it, but just keep in mind, you'll never forget again:)
I'd sure watch it to see if it continues to whiten, but if it doesn't I'd say it was just from forgetting that pad. I was surprised the first time you mentioned that Bay had a white spot from the previous owner and it went away. I always thought that once you got a white spot it was there forever. I'm hoping the white spots on Harleys withers goes away.
Becky
Well stay safe. I hope you don't loose power.

Rusty is such a funny horse. I haven't been letting him out to graze in the front yard. I've been letting Harley have it all since he is working so hard. But Harley is looking plenty heavy enough. This weekend I was looking close at Rusty and I think he's dropped a little weight. The flies have really been bothering him. One day last week I was even concerned he was going to colic or something. He just couldn't seem to get away from them. I hate locking a horse in a stall but if it was that bad the next day I was going to. I can't let him in Harley's run because they play so hard, and I reallyt hink that is how he hurt his leg and I don't want him to hurt it again.
Anyway, I went out for the afternoon feeding and decided to give him some time in the yard. He's the only horse I've ever had who walks away from grain just to go nose around. He's enjoying the grass alot.
I guess I'll start splitting the day and let hiim out half the day and Harley the other. The back pasture where he can go is just growed up too much with weeds, I guess it's not worth him going out there and even picking.
Becky
Just joking, really. I imagine the one ride did it, it seems it doesn't take much sometimes. Perhaps it will go away with his next shedding.
Ours all really enjoy being in the yard, of course, it's watered and so much greener than the rest of it.
Since we got some rain to wash in the herbicide we sprayed, I'd like to let them out to run the front pasture, they don't run and play much in the back forty... no room to open up I think.
I sure hope so.
I'd already decided my old black pad was wearing thin too, and I'm switching to my white one that's newer.
I won't forget it again....
Got mine filled and decided to not drive as much for a few weeks.
So far only light rain showers and wind gusts at 16 mph. Very dry here and we need the rain but not strong winds.
Well, take care, I fear for you and your critters.
You still have a bunch of cattle too, plus the horses?
Thanks, all the critters should come through without any problems.
Actually, I think they are looking forward to a nice rain shower and a gusting wind blow-dry. They do not like this dry dusty heat we have had the past few weeks.
No one looks forward to standing in a hurricane, but the rain will be good if you've been dry. I know I wish we had a little more.
Last I heard it was still a hurricane but just barely. Winds are now gusting here at 31 mph, temp is 75* with high humidity.
The critters have a dry barn to get inside if they wish but I doubt they will use it. : )
I know, mine would run out, if I gave them a choice, from the sound of the rain and wind... but that's because they're dumb, not because it's better for them.
Mine always play dumb when I want them to do something. When they are doing something I do not want them to do, they are very intelligent.......... : )
My pony knows my striking range with the hose if she'd being bad.
Boy, it's really blowing out there right now. I got all the horses haltered with ID tags on incase the fence gets knocked down, got as many of my plants moved into the shed and downwind side of the house as possible and moved the cars down the road a piece to get them away from all these big tall trees. I got a little battery powered TV, a couple of small radios, flashlights and plenty of batteries. All that should pretty much ensure that the storm blows itself out before it gets to us. ;o)
she's ;~D
Got hurricane yet?
Gosh I sure hope your place and ponies get through it OK.
Yeah, me too. We will be fine I think. They're saying that it's actually better that it's coming through at night because that takes a lot of the energy out of the air that spins off tornados. They were getting lots of those down in the middle and southern part of the state earlier in the day when it was warmer.
