This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yeah, I thought about that before and just never got around to getting any. The metal tags like you got would hold up better. No chance of the letters washing off of them. The tape will just have to do for now though.
It will work just fine :~D
On a lighter note, I rode Bob for the first time on Saturday, and he's AWSOME. I think he's the best riding horse I've ever owned. When we rode into the horse camp, there was a lady there that I've met out there on several occasions who rides a pretty little bay Arab mare and she would've bought him on the spot, for what ever price I asked, if I'd priced him to her. But he ain't for sale. He's gonna be a keeper I think. ;o)
Very good! What is it about him that makes him the best? Is it his temperament, or his gait? Or both?
His gait is to die for, but his temperament is really nice too. He'll go anywhere you ask at any speed you ask and he's got this really interesting expression in his face most of the time. It kinds reminds me of a Border Collie. Kind of an intense curiosity.
Great! Now.... if only we had pictures to see of the ride :~D
Yeah, I took a couple of my breast collar and stuff like that, but not of me riding. I was having too much fun to stop and get Shirley to take them. I'll have to see if I can't get some later.
Well I would like to see your breast collar :~D
Weeell, I remembered to bring the chip today but I forgot the card reader so it'll have to be tomorrow. I took a few new ones of little Miss Ellie too. She's finally shed out her baby hair.

That's great. I'm glad to hear he is that good.
Becky
Glad to hear you survived the storm. Thanks for letting us know Hair.

How was the ride?
It was great:) He is really doing good. Condition wise I think he will be fine. I'm still flopping a bit at the trot. I just don't feel as balanced. I "think" I'm getting better. Just take some time adjusting to the freer swinging stirrups.
I've been watching the news. Doesn't sound good for Al. Are you getting more concerned?
Becky
The ride where Bay was 'off' and I had forgotten his wedge pad was 7/31 (this ride). Almost exactly a month ago. This is precisely where I'd expect him to sore without it. From my post then:
However, when we got back and I unsaddled, I noticed that Bay's Cashell cushion that usually goes between his pad and the saddle was forgotten in the tack room. It's the little wedge pad that is made to fit him to keep my saddle from bridging. So who knows, maybe that's why he was slow, he was backsore. I sure felt bad to have forgotten it. I should know by now that if he's off, there's a reason.
Is it possible that these white hairs are from that ride and that ride alone? They can't appear overnight, the hair has to grow in that color... Is a month how long that takes?
Other rides since:
Aug 7 - a week later... no report about whether he was particularly up or down, but if he was particularly up, I would have said so, since I've been having those concerns about him lately.
Aug 13 - long BCH ride, he was pretty up that day.
Aug 21 - Last ride, and he seemed to feel great.
I've never ~noticed~ a swelling or back soreness after any of the rides, and yet, there's this. I ~want~ to think this problem only happened the one day I forgot his cashell, and does not represent an ongoing issue, but don't lie to me if you think I'm wrong and I have a fit issue.
I feel pretty lousy about it regardless.
A little bit. I just hope the wind doesn't get TOO bad. We had quite a few trees down last year when Ivan came right over the top of us. Katrina is going a little bit further west, which I hear is worse as far as rain goes. I'm not worried about flooding. It's pretty hilly where I live. As long as a tree doesn't fall on my house and the horses don't get out, I'll be happy.
It's supposed to come over us sometime around midnight. Man, I hate storms in the dark! The wind should be down quite a bit from what it is now. 70mph is bad, but not as bad as what those poor folks in NOLA got.
We'll all be praying for your safety and the safety of the horses. I agree, I'd rather have it in daylight. Here in my cardboard house, we've been pretty scared when it's blowing here and we hear limbs breaking and can't see a thing.
Thanks, all prayers are appreciated! :o)
My Stubben bridged him there, and he got white hairs, and they did luckily change out with the next coat change.
