This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
That's good. Bay does well coming up on groups that we only see in passing and leaving again... leaving a group he's buddied up with is a little harder, but I think it's also something he's used to. If I needed to turn and leave the group he'd go.
What he's bad about is following at a distance. On the last ride with the BCH group, toward the end Cyn was really lagging behind the others. ecurbh was letting her, as we were on rocky roads then and her feet might be tender on those, if not just tired. I wanted to stay back with her, and Bay wanted to get right up to the other group. I just chuckle at him really... I wished a couple times I had a hackamore on him or something he didn't want to pull on. I just kept circling him, and he just thought I was interfering for no good reason ;~D
Mornin
Late start this morning? :~D
I wish. Getting to work at 8:30 a pain and starting monday I have to be here at 8:'(
Hi everyone,
It is HOT here! We've been sorting out where to put stuff in the truck! : ) I had to re-do the first -aid kit, from one big one to two smaller ones to make them fit, so I did one for kids and one for adults. Then the kids wanted the dvd player fitted......and I just had to get all my cds into the player! LOL
It surprised me when i spoke to a friend just now that she doesnt have a single first-aid item in her vehicle!
I have a horse one in my trunk. We have a tool box on the bed of our truck because we didn't have enough space to store stuff.
Have you ever tried the hackamore on him?
Becky
I always worked from 6am, or earlier. I am a morning person and like to get stuff done early in the day : )
I have a first aid kit in the horse trailer.... for them.... but I don't usually have one in the truck with us ;~\
I've never carried a first aid kit in a vehicle. I never even thought about it. The first time my DIL went with me to a CTR her mother bought one for us to take. I always have stuff for the horses in the trailer, but I've never carried anything for humans.
Becky
Amazing. 3 posts and we all have kits (for the horses:')
LOL...shows our priorities. Does that mean we think more of our horses then our kids:) My kids were lucky if I had bandaids are medicines in the house let alone the trucks.
Becky
Not Cyn's.... but he's been ridden most of his life in a hackamore. Dick used one with him and the endurance lady too. I think any horse will respect one, and yet they don't have to be used harsh.
He was just muscling me, and I feign annoyance at him about it, but if he's chomping at the bit to go faster at the end of a ride as tough as that one, I'm too thrilled to curse his attitude. His attitude said he was still feeling good. He'd be a lot of horse for a beginner, but he's always under control, if dancing in place ;~D I pick my battles with him at this point.
Lol I guess if it works for the horses the kids covered too.
So you don't think you'd have the same trouble with a hack as you do the kimberwick?
Becky
That reminds me... we need to see about putting one of the other headstalls on Cyn's bridle. Perhaps we should do that before we get to the trailhead next time? ;~D
LOL whats funny to read here amongst you all is that if the horses get sick they will be ok, you've got them covered but if get a headache or you eat something and have a bad upset tummy, you're in trouble! LOL
I even keep spare contact lenses and solution for deaconjim in my kits!
No - He can grab the kimberwick and get on the muscle. ;~D I could be a lot lighter with him with the hackamore.
