This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
They do have cool toys though:')
Where is everybody?
Good morning.
Becky
Sleeping!
Good morning!
Mornin'!

Morning
~sipping too:)~
I'm getting ready to go saddle a horse, I know I'll be glad I did after it's done, but darn, it's hard to get out there:)
Becky
Yup.
Heat index is supposed to hit 105 degrees here today.
Simply hideous!
We are suppose to have a high heat index too. The horse is saddled, I'm out of here for a while.
Becky
Have a good ride!
Cool and damp here, but it's not raining.... I actually wish it was.
Have fun!
I'm going to try and get some of this paperwork cleared off of my desk.
Oh, it is just miserably humid here. I got almost 3 hours in today. I think Harley and I are both a bit tired from the 4 days of work. I'm glad we've got a few days break:)
Becky
You're taking a break now for a few days?
My horses look bored. All huddled together, heads down.... Nothing to do. We'll probably go riding tomorrow.
Yeah, I don't ride on Fri. because I keep the grandkid, and I think Mack is taking Sat. and Sun. off so I'm not sure what we'll be doing. He's talking of maybe going to the lake. If we are here and just laying around on Sun. I'll ride, but that's up in the air right now.
I think Harley needs a break. he was taking the hills pretty slow today:)
Becky
Well, then he should have a break ;~D
When's the CTR?
After your questions about How I take off the saddle I've been paying attention to what I do. I don't think anything was bumping or scraping him. But I think with him getting so sweaty under the blanket it was sort of "stuck" to him and when I just pull it off to the side it pulled. Yesterday and today, I lift it up at the horn, and "unstuck" it, then pulled it off and there was no head toss.
I'm tempted to try mine again, but won't till after the ride. It may very well be he was sore from mine, and it has nothing to do with the pull off, and now he's not sore. I try after this ride I'm going to.
Or does that make any sense at all:)?
Becky
Sept 10, 11.
Becky
I did run into a group of ladies out riding. I actually followed their tracks for awhile, curious as to who was out there. I was glad to see that Harley didn't get silly when we rode up on them, and then when they went one way and we went the other he went very willingly. The herd instinct is the hardest part to overcome, IMO, when CTRing.
Becky
Yeah - It makes sense, and I know how it feels to use guesswork to figure out what the problem is. It's hard to have any confidence in what's right or wrong.
Well I do know when I was just pulling it off it felt like it would come unstuck. Liffing it straight up off his withers first and letting some air under there seems to make it slide off alot easier.
