Basically it's the noseband and the types of bits. English curbs usually don't have quite the shanks that western bits do.
You should have posted that to hair:), he is her husband:)
Becky
There is a lot of western bits that don't have alot of shank. The bit I trail ride in doesn't have much.
Becky
Have you done much western riding?
Becky
Oh, sorry, I meant to.
I never competed, but I use to ride western for pleasure or if I was going out on trail. I'm pretty familiar with it, but no expert.
Thanks - he does look like he's taking the hop in stride :~D
LOL...if western saddles are so bulky, heavy and hard to deal with, why did you use one when you trial rode?
In reality, I don't consider my self a western or an English rider. Personally I don't see a nickles worth of difference when I watch the two other then in the tack.
I don't know which saddle I will like best, probably neither, it will just be riding. I'm more interested in makeing sure the saddle doesn't HURT the horse. I'm sure that I could just as easily find a different western saddle that would work as well as an english might. If an 1000 lb horse can't carry around 180 lbs, that fits well then the HORSE is the problem not the saddle. I've never had a problem dealing with western saddles. In fact the few times I've put Jenny's english saddle on her horse, I had trouble buckling the girth. Seems very awkward to me.
Preference of saddle is nothing more then what people are use to. If a saddle fits a horse, it won't make a difference to him
The main reason i want an English is I thought Harley looked nice in one. He's built just right, IMO. When I see those great big warmbloods with those little English saddles I think that looks odd, but that's my opinion.
Becky
He would look good in one, and I think you'd learn to like the simplicity of it in time. Wish I could help with which saddle would fit him the best. Do the Wintec people, or maybe the Wintec website help with fitting tips on which tree would be best for him?
I just got back from Crawford. See #1087 if you want to see a picture of Sarah.http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1462650/posts?q=1&&page=1001
I can't figure out how to get to the "Wintec" web site. Is all I seem to be able to find is just tack stores that sell them.
Becky
Did you have a good time? We have been truck hunting again.
We are thinking about going for a new F150 4 door 4x4. "family" discount thing is a pretty good deal right now! It's got to last, so it would be best to not get something with hefty mileage to start off with.
I found the web site -
http://www.wintec.net.au/
I saw the new wide model under "what's new" I bet he doesn't need that. I think the standard will fit any horse... that wide model is made for the huge draft warmblood crosses.
LOL...Ok that was a website I was looking at yesterday. I got frustrated with it to, because I couldn't find prices. I thought it was just a dealer.
I read the fact sheet on the wide, and it said for "cobs" I didn't know those were the big size horses.
Becky
I did notice this time looking at that site tho, that there is "fitting" page. Doesn't give much info tho.
Becky
I did. The people in Crawford seemed ok with us being there and without freeping Shehan we were able to get the word out that America supports her troops.
