The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Naw... They've been over them before... but they can be scary the first time... there's running water under it and a big culvert. On a green horse, I'm more nervous on little bridges like that one than the big bridges with rails... wondering if they'll step off the sides, but really, the horses usually walk right down the center of it, they don't want to step off into the hole either.

Hi,
Love the pictures as usual. Have you tried a neopreme cinch or can you get one for an English saddle?

Becky, the horses playing picture is cool.

CindyDawg - waiting for pictures of SL. My doberman hated being put in a tub for a bath, thought she was going to be killed. She would stand in the yard to be bathed though, with no problem with the hose running on her.

My aunt and uncle used to fly alot, and got a lot of enjoyment out of it. (I don't know what they flew) It seems really really neat, but I'm way too afraid of crashing to be able to actually relax and enjoy myself.

Have you tried a neoprene girth or a girth cover? Those might help a lot.

Do you guys recommend Neoprene? I haven't used them but I've heard others complain about them.

Neoprene is fine as long as it's covered by something. I used a neoprene theraputic saddle pad on my horse in addition to a regular saddle pad when he developed some bone spurs on his back. It worked wonders. However, it was covered in a soft cloth material. I think it would work fine if it was covered.

Well, all the girths here are Neoprene. They aren't covered with anything, although some of them have a waffle like texture. You can get breast collars made of Neoprene also.

We don't have any problem with them and remember - we are using them on endurance horses.

I really wish that they would sell girth covers that weren't sheepskin/fleece. While I know the purpose is to wick away moisture, they also seem so hot. I wish they would make them in a different material. So I was browsing different sites looking for girth covers, and I came across sterling silver stirrups! Who would want sterling silver stirrups? Maybe if you did grand prix dressage? I mean, yikes! Look!

I can't get my pictures to my album on York. Everything goes fine but they don't transmit. Cindydawg, hates water. Beaches, tubs, hosed on the grass, anything wet. I was shocked that she stood there and let me bath her and even seemed to like the attention. I guess she figured if it didn't kill the big dog then...

I have one that came with the saddle. I don't use it though because it slips.

Yeah that's a problem that I've had. I've used them on western cinches, and the cover will bunch.

:) That must be it. And maybe she thought if she put up with it, you'd take her along every time you go to see the big dog.
