The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'll take care of it. Just part of my husbandly duties, you know. There are other duties I would prefer, but oh well. ;~D

*shudder* It's the worst sound isn't it?

Made worse if it doesn't kill the durn thing right away and you hear it flailing away.

Ugh!

For some reason, the ones that the animals kill don't make me cringe so much as the image of them in that ~SNAP~ trap.

Heck.... I sent Gidget after the mice nest full of babies I found in the barn and watched her gobble them all down, one by little pink one. But this seems... no... on second thought, that was worse ;~D But the alternatives if I had to kill them were worse yet.

I just can't take the drama.

The pic looks like a shovel was used!

I think a machete is the usual tool for the job :-)

I've drilled a hole in them first to get the milk out, then hack them open. They are something of a pain to fool with...usually just buy a can of the milk instead...

Sorry to say, sis - but I've been witness to it. Not pretty.

And I don't understand how Gidget eating pinkies ~isn't~ drama. :-/

You should'a seen the one I shot outside the downstairs door... that .357 snakeshot has a really limited range. This one was a little on the fringe of that, and only caught a few pellets. Flopped around for the longest time... bleeding all over the place. :-)

They score the shell of grocery store coconuts nowadays.

I drive a nut pick through the eyes with a hammer and let the milk drain. Then I take it outside and crack it with a hammer. With the scored shell, sometimes you get two empty halves that you can bang together.
