The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

No doubt.

Heh...no, I already have a grey pair.

The red ones are just so neat. But, like red Chucks, I don't need 'em. I got my blue Chucks 'cause I needed a pair of everyday sneakers.

But my milk bottle I got yesterday...that was a whim. I allow myself to indulge a whim for a buck or two, but not usually much more than that.

Except of course the Beetle is a big expensive whim...but hopefully I'll have a CAR out it someday!

I'll probably go take a look at the feed store down the street.

At least to have a reference point, you know?

You're better than I am. I got into buying mode this weekend. I *needed* to buy mandolin strings (the ones on my mandolin are getting old enough they aren't staying in tune), but then I ordered a couple of used CDs and a book and other stuff from Amazon, too.

The book and the CDs are religious ones, and I'd *like* that to be justification, but it isn't really. ;-)

Oh well. I'm still OK on money, and I can use a few things to look forward to right now.

I know what you mean...my little third quart milk bottle is sitting in my kitchen window and I just love to look at it!

But that's also a hobby. Hobbies are...different from whims. Kinda. ;-)

Heh...you'd be shocked likely at how much my family has sunk into musical instruments and accessories over the years. Books and music.

But really, I don't regret buying my instruments. There's a point of diminishing returns, of course, where you end up paying for "jewelry"...but buying well made, nice sounding instruments isn't a bad investment, I don't think.

We're back from the beach!

I almost got a deer.

I don't want a deer.

Oh no! Instruments are timeless!

I should put my whistles in my cedar chest...

A deer miss. Although Hair and ecurbh would have gotten the worst of it. Hate those darters.

She darted right out of the woods and almost got the passenger side doors.

Don't like those darters. I prefer my deer standing on the side wondering whether to cross or not.
