Word For The Day, Day, Date
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
ex·co·ri·ate; tr verb
1. To tear or wear off the skin of; abrade. See Synonyms at chafe. 2. To censure strongly; denounce: an editorial that excoriated the administration for its inaction.
v 1: express strong disapproval of; "We condemn the racism in South Africa"; "These ideas were reprobated" [syn: condemn, reprobate, decry, objurgate] 2: tear or wear off the skin or make sore by abrading; "This leash chafes the dog's neck" [syn: chafe]
[Middle English excoriaten, from Latin excorire, excorit- : ex-, ex- + corium, skin; see sker-1 in Indo-European Roots.]
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Good Morning!
Excoriating a liberal only gets you a pile of excretions.
Actually, two piles; the one you removed, and what you have left.
you were gone somewhere???
Rivalled only by the more old-fashioned Idlewild Park.
Dunno if Idlewild still has this old-time ride, but it was always one of my favorites.
A++ i would pay a large sum of $$ to hear her say that to him!
they must all be owned by the same company now, bc the billboards on the turnpike advertize Idlewild, Sandcastle and Kennywood all together.
Fury is a five year old excoriating Mommy or Daddy because she didn't get her way - especially when (a) ice cream, (b) candy, or (c) getting a pet are concerned!!
How is xsmommy this fine Monday a.m.?
we were there with xsbro and his fam, so a total of 10 of us. do you recall the Turnpike ride? it is the old fashioned cars on the track etc. Anyway, we were lined up there waiting our turn and a guy and his kids came up behind us and said "Yunz in LINE?" (intonation going up at the end of the sentence which is TRUE pittsburgh style, so much of the accent is the intonation!) well xskids and their cousins all burst out laughing bc they know Pittsburghese when they hear it.
lookalike fruits? the Pillsbury Doughboy is celebrating his 40th bday and he was at Kennywood and gave away t-shirts, so we could conceivably had 10 of us in Kennywood outfits.
Morning!
Their party's planned obstruction
Just goes to show us that
No matter who is chosen it
Won't please a single 'rat
They want to have the supreme court
As liberal as can be
And dreaming up new "civil rights"
For every monstrosity
From marrying fruits and abortion
To excoriating the God-fearing way
They want to be the ones to make
The law what liberals say
disgusting visual that : ) A++
Thank you. Idlewild I've heard of, but had not heard of Kennywood.
that 5 yo needs a beating! ; ) good. hows bout you?
Kennywood was established in 1878, it is in the historic register.
"Datem, Dickem & Dunkem"
ROFLMAO! I haven't heard that one in a long time-my dad use to call fat Teddy's firm " Winem, Dinem, Dickem & Dunkem", too...
Chuckie Schumer writes the DNC Talking Points:
For Bush's Supreme Court, excoriate
Every right-winger Bush wants to nominate
'Specially those with a bent
Towards the Framers' intent
The more they adhere, then the more we hate
Ex-President Clinton exkerryated, "oops excoriated", Senator Kerry at the Aspen Institute for Idiotic Dimbulbs!
A++ and we know all that bc we heard it right from the Putzhead's own lips!
A+++ took the words right autta my mouth! ; )
