During WWII (we're in WWIII right now but it just hasn't been given that name) Civil Defense corps were formed along our borders and shorelines. America went on a war footing. During this war, beyond a few concret barriers put up in front of the shopping mall, America has not gone on a war footing. A few brave and patriotic Americans - actually about 1,000 of them - formed a Civil Defense corps called the Minuteman Project (now called Minuteman Civil Defense Corps) in response to President Bush's plea that all Americans be "vigilant" and to watch for and report suspicious activity. Not only did the government not approve of this Civil Defense corps, but President Bush himself started calling its members names like "vigilante". Up until the 1st of April, when their operations started on the border, Free Republic banned any postings of anything about the corps and banned several FReepers for posting about it. Many are still banned to this day. During the month of April some of the Minuteman posts were begrudgingly allowed. As of today, FReepers are not allowed to post anything from the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps website (www.minutemanhq.com) for some unexplained reason.
It is time to reestablish the old Civil Defense Corps to at least protect our borders. And, yes, those planes should have been blasted out of the sky. One of the primary reasons that 9/11 happened is that the subhuman jihadist scum of the world were convinced by Bill Clinton that we were a paper tiger - that we had a soft underbelly. They saw how quickly we pulled out of Somolia when we got stung. Emboldened by that, they attacked. After all the initial flag waving and speeches about standing up against terrorism our nation is back to soft underbelly mode. The jihadist dirtbags are likely to notice that and be emboldened again enough to attack us again. We are at war - we need to act like it.
Well said Spiff. Americans are unfailingly forgiving as evidenced by the planes that weren't shot down for example. The problem is that we can no longer afford to be forgiving. If it looks like a threat, squash it!
