Look, the bottom line is either we are at war or we are not. If we are we need to control our borders, no matter what the cost! Aid to foreign countries can be stopped or delayed to pay for it, taxes can be raised. You do what you must to win at all costs. You don't concede border security because it may be costly.

Well the least we could do is get the INS to allow the local police to turn illegals in and then ship them back to wherever they came from. Thats not happening now.

The INS has no problem with this. Local politicians forbid their police from cooperating with the INS.

The picture I posted was a part of Operation Gate Keeper, the ultimate solution to keeping out border jumpers.

Although the official reports indicated that the operation was up to 41% effective on good days, experienced guards estimated it was only 5% to 15% effective. See the Inspector General's Report I linked in the last post.
There isn't any study or any proposal or any design that anyone claims could appreciably reduce the number of border jumpers.
The only solution is to remove the demand by adopting a guest worker program.

I don't believe that is a failing of the INS but rather of the police forces and their political masters...
I believe the pols want more money (it's always money) to enforce those laws....
Gov. Napolitano in AZ has just released details on an initiative to set up DPS teams partnered with Customs and Immigration officers.
Their purpose is to pick up and hold illegal aliens apprehended by local LEOs in Arizona towns and cities. The stated goal is to end the catch and release phenomenon we are seeing now in jurisdictions all along our southern border.
I suspect this is a reelection ploy, but if it works...I'm all for it.

I agree 100%, and that is exactly why I didn't vote for GWB in 2004 - he failed miserably, and still continues to leave the borders open.
The only legitimate solution which upholds our laws, preserves our national sovereignty, puts Americans first, and does not reward criminals is to NOT adopt a reward-the-criminal invader scam (aka. guest worker program) as you propose but to actually enforce our laws, crack down on dishonest criminal employers, and remove all of the incentives which draw the criminal invaders across our borders in the first place. The border crossing will slow to a trickle and those here illegally will go home.
The difference between you and me is that I favor a policy of enforcement that puts Americans first. You, instead, favor a policy of excusing the lawbreakers, offering them rewards and putting foreigners first.
Your solution forces Americans to bear the responsibility for supporting those who invade our country. My solution makes the invaders individually responsible for breaking and entering our nation and forces them and their accomplices to face the consequences for their actions.
Your solution encourages businesses to continue to engage in unfair and illegal business practices. My solution punishes criminal employers and benefits those who are obeying the law.
Your solution sympathizes with the lawbreaker. My solution penalizes the lawbreaker.
Your solution is soft on crime. My solution is tough on crime.
Your solution is to offer rewards and understanding to the invaders. I believe it is time to unleash the might and power of the United States law enforcement and military to repel the invaders and punish those who aid and abet them.
Your solution is a surrender. My solution has America protecting the rights and property of its citizens and preserving our sovereignty.
