Stewart taken to hospital after wreck exiting Turn 4

JOLIET, Ill. - Driver Tony Stewart was taken to Provena St. Joseph Medical Center for precautionary X-rays and CT scan following an accident in Friday's Nextel Cup practice session.

Stewart was exiting Turn 4 when instead of turning, his No. 20 Chevrolet slammed the retaining wall with the right-front taking the hardest impact. The car then slid into the infield grass.

It took several minutes before Chicagoland Speedway safety personnel could get Stewart out of the car. He appeared disoriented when he finally walked toward the ambulance.

Joe Gibbs Racing put Busch Series driver J.J. Yeley in the No. 20's backup car to try to get a few laps in practice before the session ended.

Question is, who will qualify the 20 if Smoke doesn't make it back from the hospital in time? Dunno the size of Hamlin or Yeley compared to Tony (the logical choices considering both are in Gibbs' Busch program).

That answers my question. Makes sense from a sponsor standpoint (Yeley's Busch sponsors are Home Depot and Vigoro).

With the primary being the car that pretty much dominated Michigan, they're definitely taking everything they can out of it. Nice of them to park it right in front of a camera.

NASCAR.com is saying that Smoke will not be making a run (which means he'll start 42nd as the Gibbs #20 Hime Depot Chevy is in the top 35 in owners' points).

Meanwhile, Jayski is saying that Office Depot will be the sole primary sponsor on Backflipper's #99 ride in 2006 (they are the main one of the rotating primaries on the #99 this year)
