The Canadian brain drain to the U.S. used to be only a spit in the bucket for most of the twentieth century. It became a steady drizzle in the eighties, rain in the nineties and can be best described as coming down in buckets today.
And so, according to the article on page A4 of today's National Post, Canada is now ready to start scouting in other countries to replace the brains we lose to the United States.
This is all fine and dandy except it won't work!
You see, even if Canada is successful in recruiting brains, what's stopping these recruits from being re-recruited by the American recruiters along with our own brightest as soon as they acquire English language skills?
Canada must first think up a system to make them stay here. Perhaps like the NHL where the super brawny hockey players aren't allowed to skate to paradise at will.
Until such time, Canada had best stick to their other ideas of replacing the brain drain to the USA, such as picking off the taxi drivers with professional credentials. Their numbers are in tens of thousands according to our Liberal government.
I recommend capitalism.
I "feel bad" for Canada when they believe that their biggest brains are Peter Jennings, John Candy, Dan Akroyd, Dave Thomas (the comedian, not the Wendy's guy), Michael J Fox, Gordie Howe and Celine Dion
A large cement wall ~ yeah, that's it ~ stops 'em every time!
That's an inevitable step in socialism. You have to force them to stay.
"""I "feel bad" for Canada when they believe that their biggest brains are Peter Jennings, Michael J Fox ..."""
They DO have super talent and I wish them both speedy recoveries.
"""A large cement wall ~ yeah, that's it ~ stops 'em every time!"""
The "Iron Curtain" they called it when I lived in communist Czechoslovakia. And like ClaireSolt says, they HAD to put it up to force us brainy people to stay.
"""I wish them both speedy recoveries."""
On the way back from my pulmonary specialist I started wondering about how Peter Jennings was coping?
Anybody heard lately?

Seeing as how Peter Jennings is getting accolades and praise for his brains & talent from sea to shining sea Casekirchen probably feels even worse than how he felt when he wrote the above.
Ping to ClaireSolt.

--- Accolades from the MSM and polite noises about the dead from others.
Peter Jennings was a terrorist supporter right from the start of his national career, making excuses for the 1972 Munich murders. His blame America rants after the WTC attacks were beyond the pale.
He also regularly took the side of those who had promised to "bury" us, earning the alternative spelling of his name to "Piotor Jenningsov".
And, no, actually I don't feel worse. If he was a Christian, then he is better off.
If in fact it was lung cancer that he died off, then he is in less pain since he doesn't have to fight for every breath. Having had several relatives (smokers all) who died of lung cancer, I'm not sure that cancer was all that was going on given how his last several published pictures looked, he had lost a lot of weight.
Perhaps he was partaking in some of the 'starvation is bliss Terri' treatment that the MSM was telling us about? (I don't specifically remember if PJ made that claim or not).
The only thing that I 'feel worse' about wrt PJ, is that some other Anti-American news reader will be permanently put into the chair. Some spin & lies, different face & voice.
FYI, I didn't 'fell worse' when I did the original posts. Nor about your 'pithy' response.
In all of the accolades everyone kept saying that Peter was a real "Canadian", even though he eventually took up US citizenship in 2003.
So it should come as no surprise that:
1/ He was a major leftie. His dad worked for the CBC & his first job was at the CBC ... a government supported left wing station. You have to see this station to believe it ... I think in the US it would be charged with treason for some of the stuff it airs.
2/ He died like a Canadian, with his illness caught way too late.
PS: Bill Clinton lost a bunch of weight also so who knows. Monica is as chubby as ever though, so at least we know that she's not the likely culprit.
