Pledge of Allegiance by Red Skelton
Posted on 07/03/2005 2:24:36 PM PDT by navysealdad
As a schoolboy, one of Red Skelton's teachers explained the words and meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance to his class. Skelton later wrote down, and eventually recorded, his recollection of this lecture. It is followed by an observation of his own.

Totally outstanding, made me pause and think for a few minutes about how much I love my country.
I always loved Red Skelton too, watch him on TV when I was a young boy. Great to hear his voice again.

Actors & Celebrites were different then, proud to Americans, even serving proudly in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Well, except for one famous boxer.

I found Skelton's reading on Kazaa a couple of years ago, it brought tears to my eyes listening to it. IIRC, he made in on his show in 1969, it is interesting that when he said that "it would be a shame that it could be a prayer too," he was really ahead of the curve by 35 years.

I remember Rush playing this on his TV show.... I loved it then, and still do now.
