It is actually one word too.

That's for the benefit of our yankee friends. Up north, syllables tend to get lost... you know... "Let's go eat." becomes "Sgueet." On the other hand, southerners tend to add syllables... I was walking through the Nashville airport watching a young mother chase her small child. His name was Chris. She hollered his name in at least three syllables... "Ker-eeee-isss."

I figure all the extra syllables that yankees strip out of sentences end up in the south, and have to get used up somehow to conform to the universal law of conservation of syllables.

Or something.
