Couldn't you just rent him the Alton Brown tape where he built the ultimate smoker while living in a scrap yard... Well, yes I could, but it's a lot easier coming up with a used fridge than a gym locker like Alton used.
In fact, my beer fridge died last weekend, and the replacement is here... hmmmmm... that leaves me with a dead fridge.
