I got up extra early today and went down south to Lemont, IL to see Tiger Woods at the Western Open. He teed off at 0745 and the crowd was already full tee to green. There were people, stacked 10-15 deep all over the place. It was the largest Friday crowd I have ever seen and I've been going down there for FRiday rounds since 1992.
He teed off on 10 and I followed him thru the back nine and then skipped ahead to watch Vijay Singh come thru 1 & 2.
Tiger went left on 1 and parred, then on 2, a par three I was moving ahead to the three tee box and a golf ball whizzed and thrashed through the tree above me. It dropped literally at my feet and the black Nike logo stared at me.
Tiger's ball had gone right about 15 yards deep into these fully leafed out trees. I just stood by the ball with my arm raised so the Marshall could see me. About 21,000 people were running over, like ants to honey.
Minutes later, Tiger saunters over with is caddy, clears the crowd away a little more and whacks a four iron out of the trees and into the front bunker. He was looking really pained and yet he held his famous temper as he took a bogey.
He finished two under for the day, tied for 17th.
Saw some amazing golf shots today and some really terrible ones too!
